ABandofBrothers Cornwall We mentor men aged 18-25 offering rites of passage, community and brotherhood. Changing lives, one connection at a time.

abandofbrothers is a charity established by men committed to positive social change through personal development and community building. The organisation was born out of concern at the continuing escalation of self-destructive and anti-social behaviour among young men from every section of society, together with the realisation that any meaningful and sustainable solution entails the reclamation of shared local responsibility
Central to all of our programmes are experiences that have come to be termed “rites of passage.” Through this context we harness the integral goodwill of local adult men by providing them with a powerful training that develops mentoring skills, emotional intelligence and enhances authenticity and confidence. This in turn empowers these men to provide a rites of passage training and ongoing mentorship to the young men of their community. The mentors hail from very varied walks of life and currently include local businessmen, tradesmen, film makers, actors and even Chief Executive of a large public company. They act as role models for local young men who are experiencing difficult life situations and provide them with acknowledgement, challenge and a whole range of other coaching and support, both personal and practical, to enable them to turn their lives around. By bringing generations of men together to collaborate in a meaningful and common purpose, Abandofbrothers acts as a catalyst for creating social capital at a local level. We work in partnership with community leaders, local authorities, educationalists, health professionals and all service providers who are seeking an effective way to engage and marshal the energy of male youth.

Thank you Cornwall Community Foundation for mentioning us amongst such a fantastic list of groups and organisations.

Today, on Su***de Prevention Day, we’re shining a light on the incredible organisations across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly working every day to prevent su***de, support those affected by su***de, improve mental health and make sure no one has to face things alone.

Su***de rates in Cornwall are 46% higher than England overall (Vital Signs 2025). A shocking statistic that has unfortunately affected so many of us. We are proud to be supporting groups across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly who are working to change this.

From creating safe spaces to talk, to providing peer support, building connection and helping people find their way through difficult times, these organisations are making a real difference in communities across the duchy.

These are just a handful of groups we’ve had the privilege of supporting over the years:

💛 Georgia's Voice Supporting Young Women's Mental Health creates safe, confidential spaces for young women aged 18–25, helping them feel heard, supported and less alone. (pictured)

💛 ABandofBrothers Cornwall brings men together through mentoring and community, helping young men build connection, belonging and purpose.

💛 Sunrise Cornwall CIC supports people affected by su***de, helping those living with the ripple effects of loss to find connection, hope and healing.

💛 Penhaligons Friends provides specialist bereavement support for children and young people across Cornwall, including those affected by the death of someone through su***de.

💛 Cornwall Mind provides vital mental health and wellbeing support across Cornwall, including support for people bereaved by su***de and programmes focused on resilience and prevention.

💛 The Sparkle Foundation UK is working to support men who are lonely, isolated or struggling with their mental health (Steve’s Legacy).

Today, and every day, let’s keep talking and listening.

If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available. In Cornwall, you can call NHS 111 and select option 2 for 24/7 mental health support. You can also call Samaritans on 116 123, free, day or night. If someone’s life is at immediate risk, call 999.

The world is a better place with you in it 💛

Last week, ABandOfBrothers spent a sunny morning at Leach Pottery in St Ives.

We learned about the history of Bernard Leach and the pottery before getting our hands on the clay and making our own tea bowls. Working together in the garden, we had the chance to learn something new, get creative and simply enjoy being together.

Building a community isn't just about the mentoring, or the Wednesday nights. It's about the experiences we share, the things we learn together and the connections we build along the way.

We had a brilliant time at Leach Pottery, hopefully the first of many more.
