Daily Dip 4 Dave

Daily Dip 4 Dave Raising awareness of & vital funds for Neuroendocrine Cancer UK to help with research and support.

19/06/2026

17 swims left.

When I started this challenge, I thought the hardest part would be walking into a cold sea every day.

I was wrong.

The hardest part has been realising how many people have never even heard of Neuroendocrine Cancer.

That is why Daily Dip 4 Dave has never really been about swimming.

It has always been about making an invisible cancer just a little more visible.

When Dave was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroendocrine Cancer, I promised myself I would do something positive.

Nearly 1000 consecutive swims later, and thanks to an incredible community, we've raised almost £60,000 including Gift Aid.

But this challenge has never been carried by swimmers alone.

It has been carried by people who decided to help.

People who have:

• Organised fundraisers
• Donated raffle and auction prizes
• Sponsored swims
• Shared posts
• Introduced new supporters
• Given their time, skills and encouragement

Every one of those actions has mattered.

Now, with just 17 swims left, I'm asking one more time...

Will you help me finish this challenge as strongly as we started it?

On 5th July, you could:

• Join us for a swim or dip
• Walk 1000 steps
• Bake cakes
• Hold a raffle
• Sponsor somebody taking part
• Share the campaign
• Simply help more people learn about Neuroendocrine Cancer

If you're planning to take part on 5th July, please register your swim so I know where everyone is joining from.

Let's make the final day not the end of a challenge, but the biggest show of support yet.

I think one of the hardest parts of this challenge now is that I am no longer running on adrenaline, hope or blind determination. The last month has been the hardest of them all.

Because nearly 1000 days into Daily Dip 4 Dave, I am much deeper into the reality of what living alongside incurable cancer actually means.

At the start, there was still a part of me that believed that if I just kept fighting hard enough, raising enough awareness, pushing hard enough… somehow things might feel different.

But living alongside Stage 4 cancer changes you.

You slowly realise that no amount of determination, cold water, fundraising or awareness can fix the thing you are most desperate to fix.

And that is an incredibly hard truth to sit with.

People often see the swims, the resilience, the community and the positivity.
What they don’t always see is the exhaustion that sits underneath it after nearly 1000 consecutive days.

The pressure of trying to make this milestone “worth it”.
The fear when Dave looks more tired or more unwell.
The constant feeling of carrying on while quietly wondering where this is all leading.

That feeling of futility is hard to explain unless you have lived alongside serious illness.

Because the simple truth is this:.....this challenge may not save Dave.

And coming to terms with that reality while still trying to keep showing up every day has honestly been one of the hardest emotional battles of my life - and its hitting hard now.

I don't feel strong.
I am not endlessly motivated.
I can’t keep pretending everything is inspirational.

So if I seem quieter at the moment, or more emotional, or less polished than usual - that is why.

This challenge has never just been about swimming.
Perhaps it has been more about trying to find meaning & purpose in the middle of something that often feels frighteningly out of my control.

When people hear the words “rare cancer”, they often assume it affects very few people.

But in the UK, rare and less common cancers account for:

• 47% of all cancer diagnoses
• 55% of all cancer deaths

More than half.

Yet many of these cancers remain under-recognised, underfunded and poorly understood.

Neuroendocrine Cancer is one of them.

Most people have never heard of it until it affects someone they love.

This is why I keep swimming.
This is why awareness matters.
This is why visibility matters

If you believe rare and less common cancers deserve greater visibility, comment “IAM1000” below and stand with us as we approach Day 1000.

Meet two of our new incredible Daily Dip 4 Dave Champions - Lynne and Claire. Two women with huge hearts, big energy and exactly the kind of spirit this movement is built on.

In their own words...

Lynne

Midlife mermaid/fun maker 🤩
Work in healthcare.
Love the sea, outdoor activities and anything challenging.
Saw a post last year and followed Ruth. Inspired by Ruth’s fundraising efforts, her commitment and resilient defiance

Claire.

Sea Turtle with a good coffee after
Book worm along with a glass of wine
Mummy to 2 & Wife

Putting together the 7 C’s is what Ruth is all about - confidence, courage, clarity, consistency, commitment, control, and conviction & seeing Ruth carry out this challenge inspired me to follow suit because no one has to do anything alone & we are capable of more than we think.

Together these two are absolute dynamos.

You will already have seen them working flat out behind the scenes organising an amazing fun-filled day in Aberdeen on July 5th, with raffle prizes and support flying in from all directions. They are also joining me for every single Daily Dip over the final 35 days of the challenge - with inflatables and ridiculous glasses very much compulsory.

This is what the movement is about.

Ordinary people doing extraordinary things together.

If you would like to become a Daily Dip 4 Dave Champion, I would genuinely love to hear from you. There is no pressure and no expectation to do huge things. Whether you help organise events, share posts, do a dip, tell people about Neuroendocrine Cancer or simply stand beside us in support - it all matters.

We go again.
