every time i put makeup on someone says âyou donât need itâ and i know they mean well â but i think people misunderstand what makeup is for a lot of us.
sometimes itâs not about hiding.
sometimes itâs not about insecurity.
sometimes itâs not even about beauty.
sometimes itâs healing.
for some people, makeup is the first time theyâve looked in the mirror and actually seen themselves again after trauma, burnout, depression, abuse, grief, dysphoria, motherhood, survival, exhaustion, illness, heartbreak⌠whatever it may be.
it can be ritual. it can be art. it can be control when life feels uncontrollable. it can be softness after spending years in survival mode.
it can be identity. it can be gender affirmation. it can be confidence. it can simply be 20 minutes where your body belongs to you again.
thatâs why i started The Reclaim Room CICďżź â because healing doesnât always look like sitting in a circle talking. sometimes healing looks like glitter. sometimes it looks like eyeliner sharp enough to survive another day. sometimes it looks like finally feeling worthy enough to take care of yourself again.
âu so fkn sexyâ as the audio is funny to me because yes, confidence is attractive. joy is attractive. reclaiming yourself is attractive. watching someone slowly come back to life in front of the mirror is attractive.
makeup didnât save my life.
but reconnecting to myself did.
and makeup became part of that journey đ¤
