The 15-21 June is Loneliness Awareness Week. This campaign encourages us to talk about loneliness and how it affects many people in the UK and globally, as well as create opportunities for social connection.

Many say we are lonelier now than ever, and certain groups are feeling that more profoundly, including the care-experienced community.

Swipe above to see some of the key stats on loneliness, and how the Why Not? Trust is tackling loneliness through our communities The Village and Wee Campus.

A massive thank you to everyone who shared their lived experience and voice to help us build a better village.

It takes a village to raise a child — but who supports the parents?

At The Village, we centre our community around genuine social connection, our "villagers" are building networks that outlast standard service timelines.

- Real Connection: Over 40% of our community is active in our stage-of-parenting and local area WhatsApp groups, trading advice, encouragement, and practical items.

- Real Footprints: Since June 2025, we’ve hosted over 90 in-person and online meetups—from baby banks to coffee catch-ups.

As one of our villagers wonderfully put it: "The Village is always there when you need them and you will never be judged by them."

Read more about our community's growth in our latest Annual Review under The Village tab on our website.

We have now launched our 2025-26 Village annual report!

This was a busy year of significant growth within The Village, and we are so proud to share everything our community has achieved over the last year. As of May 2026, The Village population was at 270 parents and counting! We’ve further expanded our opportunities for parents to connect with each other and form friendships, grown our birth parent community, launched the Care-Experienced Parents’ Charter, and much more.

Here’s a sneak peak of some of what is covered in the report, but we highly recommend you check out the full and summary reports on our website.

The One Where We Took Over STV Studios!

What a day! We officially launched our Care Experienced Parent Charter last week, and we did it in style right inside the studios in Glasgow!

We had a wonderful time practising our news anchor and weather presenter skills. A big thank you to everyone at STV for hosting us so warmly.
