What a great night we had at our Family Prize Bingo at Laurieston Community Hall at The Thrums.

Our hall was decorated with a Scottish theme for our World Cup and Father's Day event.

It was great to welcome so many of our "weel kent faces" dressed proudly in their Scotland football colours, and equally lovely to see some new faces joining us for the first time.

We had plenty of Scottish tunes to get us in the mood for the upcoming World Cup games.

Most importantly, thanks to your incredible support, we raised an amazing £360 towards our children's Summer Activities programme.

Following the disappointing news that we received no funding to deliver our planned Summer of Sports activities, every penny raised will make a real difference.
While we may need to scale back our plans, we're determined to continue providing opportunities for local children and families throughout the summer.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, donated prizes, bought refreshments, and supported the event.
Special thanks also go to our fantastic volunteers and everyone who stayed behind to help tidy up at the end of the night – your help is always appreciated and never taken for granted.

We hope you'll join us again at our next Family Shorts & Shades Bingo on Thursday 23rd July. It's sure to be another great night of family fun.

Until next time...
🎶 "We'll be coming... No Scotland, No Party!" 🎶
Thank you all for your continued support.

🏆 World Cup… we’ll be coming.

Get yourselves along to our Family Prize Bingo and help us celebrate Scotland being in the World Cup — optimism levels are HIGH and we’re running with it ⚽

📅 Thursday 11th June
🚪 Doors open: 6:30pm
📍 Laurieston Community Hall at The Thrums
Come along, show your true colours (yes, face paint is absolutely encouraged 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇭🇹🇧🇷🇲🇦) and get ready to score a hat trick of games.

It’s eyes down and… let’s McGinn at 7pm 👀

Expect laughs, prizes, and more dodgy bingo calls than a referee at extra time.

And because Father’s Day is just around the corner, we’ve also got a sprinkling of special Father’s Day prizes up for grabs — perfect for treating that special guy in your life 👨💙

Whether you’re a seasoned dabber or just in it for the craic, there’s something for everyone.

So if you’re from Grahamsdyke Street or just rooting for Lyndon D***s to score, come along and join the soccer fun ⚽😄

Grab your pals, bring the family, and let’s make it a night worthy of a World Cup celebration.

See you there.

🍲 Community Café at The Thrums – Would You Be Interested? 🍲

We are looking into the possibility of opening a Community Café within Laurieston Community Hall at The Thrums and would love to hear from local residents.

The aim of the café would be to provide a welcoming, warm space where people can come together, enjoy good company, and access a free hot meal. We know that many individuals and families are feeling the impact of the current financial climate, and we'd like to help where we can.

Meals on offer could include homemade favourites such as:
🥣 Soup
🌶️ Chilli
🍲 Stew
…and other hearty, warming dishes.

Before moving forward, we'd like to know:

📅 What days would suit you best?
⏰ What times would you be most likely to attend?
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Would you or someone you know make use of this service?

Please leave your thoughts and suggestions in the comments. Your feedback will help us decide whether there is enough interest and how best to shape the café to meet the needs of our community.

Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you.

It’s interesting how much attention a simple community hall poster can get online — especially from people calling themselves “digital creators”.

The loudest criticism often seems to come from people who spend their own time online creating content, yet feel the need to jump onto every community or business post to point out that AI was used to make a poster. It does make you wonder why.

What does commenting the same complaint over and over actually solve?
The person posting isn’t going to suddenly stop because strangers repeat the same moans in the comments. It doesn’t change the fundraiser, it doesn’t help the hall, and it certainly doesn’t benefit the kids the money is going towards.

Community halls are run by volunteers. People give up their own time to organise events, raise money, tidy up afterwards, and keep things going for everyone. If using AI helps make a poster in five minutes instead of fifty, that’s time better spent on the actual community work.

Whether a poster is made with AI, Canva, or marker pen on paper doesn’t change what matters — people showing up, supporting local events, and helping raise funds.

Our Thursday bingo last night, raised £390 for kids’ summer activities. That’s the story.
Not that software made the poster.
Huge thank you to everyone who supported us.

If people want to keep commenting the same thing under every post, that’s up to them. We’ll keep focusing on the things that actually make a difference in the community.

Each to their own thoughts but it’s becoming boring 😴 and repetitive.
Turn your energy into doing something more positive, than trolling on people’s advertising posts.

✨ Confession time… ✨

This is something you might not know about me (Volunteer - Nadine speaking) 👀

I have loved Eurovision since I was a kid. I have never missed a year. Not one.

Some people have Christmas traditions… I have Eurovision 😄

There’s just nothing like it — the music, the drama, the surprise winners, the performances we argue about for YEARS, and that moment when everyone suddenly becomes a professional music critic shouting “12 POINTS!” at the TV.

And honestly? I still get the same excited, buzzing feeling now as I did when I was little.

So I need to know… 👇

🎤 When did YOU first start watching Eurovision?
🏆 Early prediction — who’s winning this year?
🔥 Best Eurovision song EVER? (no wrong answers… maybe)
👯 Will you be dancing along tonight?

Let’s get the Eurovision chat going — I want hot takes, nostalgia, favourites, controversial opinions… all of it.

See you in Vienna 🇦🇹✨

🚨 WEEKEND PLANS SORTED 🚨

Right… has anyone actually been to the park at The Thrums in Laurieston lately?! 👀

Because if not, you’re missing out — new swing park AND a zip line. Yes… a zip line. The kids will love it… and let’s be honest, some of the adults are eyeing it up too 😅

And just behind us, the cycle track is ready for all the little (and not-so-little) racers 🚴‍♂️💨

If that’s not enough to tire everyone out, there’s loads of green space for a wander with the dog 🐕🌿 (or a sit down on the benches while the kids burn off their energy!)
Why not bring a picnic and sit on the picnic benches to enjoy.

👉 Then pop into Laurieston Community Hall at The Thrums between 12–3pm
We’ve got:
🎉 A couple of bouncy castles (because one is never enough)
☕ Penelope’s Pitstop serving cold drinks, ices, biscuits & cakes
🧸 A look at our newly finished renovations AND sensory room

Basically… you bring the kids, we’ll bring the chaos (and the cake) 🍰
See you there!
