Fakenham Area Conservation Team

Fakenham Area Conservation Team The Fakenham Area Conservation Team works in the Fakenham area on practical conservation tasks with a team of volunteers.

We focus on managing habitats for wildlife & public amenity and maintaining access on rural rights of way and permissive paths.

We have no task planned for this Sunday, 6 September. Details of the next task will follow nearer the time.

We are planning a task for Sunday 23 August, 9.30-12.00. Meet in Aldiss Park Car Park - behind Fakenham Tyres off Hempton Road, to cut back and rake up the over grown/wildlife area to the side of the pond on the site. Tools provided but own gloves (gardening type) useful. As it is quite overgrown/brambles/nettles wearing something to keep arms and legs suitably covered is suggested. Hope to see some of you on Sunday.

We are planning a task for this Sunday, 9 August, 9.30-12.00. Meet near the 'wishing well' in Valley Way (this is set back just passed the entrance to Paddock Close on the opposite side of the road). The plan is to pull the Himalayan Balsam growing in the d**e to the back of the properties before it sets seed. Also, the footpath is to have a cut back and tidy up from the sub-station towards Three Brick Arches. Hope to see some of you on Sunday. There is very limited on street parking in Valley Way.

Today's task was cutting back and raking up the area by the river between Jewsons and the old mill. And picking up the usual litter - much less litter there this year than on previous occasions. Also, an extra task of removing some Himalayan balsam from another section river nearby. The photos show before, during and after. Oh, and we met a large hedgehog, which we left safely covered.

We are planning a task for this Sunday, 26 July, 9.30-12.00. Meet in the parking area to the front of Jewsons (off Hempton Road) to cut back the long grass/vegetation in between the fishing pontoons from Bridge Farm to The Old Mill. There may also be some litter picking in this area too. Hope to see some of you on Sunday.

We are planning a task for this Sunday, 12 July, 9.30-12.00. This is a return trip to the Hempton/Shereford Track to cut back the top half of the Track this time. We will meet in the small layby on the left along the Shereford Road (this is a little way past the substation which has the green metal fence on the right hand side). There is a footpath across the field to the Track. We will be cutting back the footpath again to keep it accessible for walkers and other users. Tools as always provided. Own gloves (gardening type) helpful to have though. Hopefully the weather is cooling a bit by Sunday, but remember to keep hydrated and wear hats/sun cream. We will, of course, remain vigilant again for nesting birds/animals whilst in this area. Hope to see some of you on Sunday. There is very limited car parking along the Shereford Road.

This morning's task saw us clearing a fallen tree from the footpath by the river near Goggs Mill (a member of the team had cleared a bigger fallen tree nearby yesterday). Also, we did some cutting back on the Hempton/Shereford track, but there is more work to be done here next time.

We are planning a task for this Sunday, 28 June, 9.30-12.00. Meet at the entrance to the Hempton/Shereford Track (opposite the road junction from Fakenham Garden Centre). We will be cutting back the footpath to keep it accessible for walkers and other users. Tools as always provided. Own gloves (gardening type) helpful to have though. Hopefully weather is cooling a bit by Sunday, but remember to keep hydrated and wear hats/sun screen. We will, of course, be vigilant for nesting birds/animals whilst in this area. Hope to see some of you on Sunday. Very limited car parking in this area.

This morning's task saw the FACT team cutting back, clearing and litter picking the footpaths to Goggs Mill ready for next Sunday's duck and raft races.

08/06/2026

We are planning a task for this Sunday, 14 June, 9.30-12.00. Meet at Goggs Mill Bridge (some car parking available). We are planning to tidy up the footpath from Hall Staithe to Goggs Mill and, time permitting, from Bridge Farm to Goggs Mill in readiness for the Duck and Raft Race on the following Sunday, 21 June. Also there may be some litter picking in the area too. Given the time of year we will remain mindful of any nesting birds which may be in the area (including ground nesting ones) during this task. Hope to see some of you on Sunday.
