Last but not least is our newest staff member, CI Boxall!

Previously a Cdt FS at 878 Highworth Sqn and CI at 430 Droylsden Sqn, Mr Boxall has found his way back to the Corps with us here at 317. He's been busy already on squadron, teaching lessons, going gliding and even bringing the Fire service down.

It's been a great start for Mr B, it's great to see another staff member join with the enthusiasm to get stuck in and we can't wait to see what he gets up to in the next 12 months.

After a career in the Forces and a son in the squadron, Sgt MacGregor appeared on the doorstep!

Using his experience to great effect, Sgt MacGregor is a cornerstone in the practical activities we deliver. Weapons systems, fieldcraft, DofE and PT all fall under his umbrella of expertise and these are some of those core things that we as an organisation deliver so well.

When not providing opportunities for the cadets, you can often find him on a mad sidequest. Just this year he went to Everest Base Camp, then was back at squadron soon after. And is also keep on his ultrarunning, triathlons and more!

Since joining us in 2024, CI Stone has certainly made an impact.

Focusing on what sports has to offer, she took on the role of Sports Officer after completing her Archery Instructors course and has since trained and taken our teams to competitions all around the Wing.

If not on the range, you can also find her doing the arduous work of quartermaster, which our CIs share. Measuring recruits, preparing equipment and keeping the squadron ticking over. Now to see if she'll become uniformed staff 👀

You all know our Sqn & Sector WO, FS Gill.

He is yet another shining example of the dedication shown by the staff team, always staying late and showing up early are just the tip of the iceberg of things he does. He'll make you training banners, drill resources and even cook you a curry in the cold of a DofE expedition. (Not for the participants don't worry)

As previously mentioned, he has recently taken on Sector Warrant Officer and we can't wait to see the change he will bring to more squadrons.

Another of our staff members who has continued on from cadet service is CI Gill.

On squadron, he is always ready to get involved in any activity and share his enthusiasm and expertise with the cadets. Not to mention the key roles he plays with our sports teams and at competition times (he's a shoe polishing master).

You can always ask him for the time, but you'll get a Rolex investment lesson instead. "Cash is King!"

Having joined as a cadet at the grand old age of 17, Mr Barker had to make up the time somewhere.

Moving from a cadet, to CI, through the SNCO ranks and now as an officer, Mr Barker has witnessed and been pivotal in the progression of 317 squadron.

The dedication over the last 14 years from this guy has been seriously impressive and it's difficult to truly put into words what he has enabled us to achieve. Put simply, if you had to credit our story to anyone, it would be him!

A huge thank you, Sir 🫡

CI McDonald, previously a Cdt Flight Sergeant, righted his wrongs and returned to the squadron at the start of 2024.

Being well versed in all things computing, it's fair to say he has revolutionised the squadron. If you want a website, a newsletter, automated updates or an AI CI, he can code it!

He's been flirting with the idea of uniform recently, so keep your eyes peeled for what he gets up to next 👀

Mr C has playing this game for a long time. ⏳

From Sqn CI, Deputy Lieutenant and Chairman of SSAFA MCR branch, he is always acting to help benefit those around him, both in the Cadets and the local community.

Mr Catterall bring an unrivalled amount of experience to the table and will always make himself available to impart some wisdom and give advice, it's always valuable and is still a key voice in steering the squadron forwards.

Today we also celebrate his 78th birthday 🥳
Best wishes to you and family Sir!

First up is the one and only Sgt Lloyd Morris!

After completing his cadet career, Mr Lloyd Morris (no hyphen) continued on as an SNCO, getting stuck straight into supporting activities and completing more qualifications.

We'll keep this one nice and short because I am quite weirded out typing in 3rd person 🥴

It's Volunteers' Week, the perfect time to celebrate what keeps the gears spinning in the Air Cadets.

Here at 317, we are to have a large team where everyone contributes their time and effort, sadly, this isn't exactly common around the Corps.

All throughout the week, we'll be posting profiles of all the staff, make sure to show your thanks for the amazing work they do, pro bono!
