D-Day +82

The 95th Bomb Group flew three missions on the 06th June 1944, with 34 aircraft on the first mission, 19 on the second and 24 on the third; with many crews flying at least two of the missions that day. Unfortunately due to 10/10 cloud cover over the target on the second mission, all aircraft returned without completing the mission.
Pictured is the official report of the day held in our archives.
We remember with solemnity, all those lost that fateful day and throughout the Normandy Campaign.

Fitje Pitts was one of the first ARC Military Welfare Service workers to be based at Horham, responsible for setting up the Aero Club that would serve as a 'slice of home' on foreign soil to the Enlisted Men if the 95th during their time in England.

The Donut Dollies Podcast, have done an episode on Fitje, telling the story of her wartime service from joining the ARC, her service with the 95th, 91st BG, the 9th AF HQ and onto the 386th Bomb Group, which took her into France and Belgium.
