National Year of Reading 2026

If you’re into it, read into it

Everyone knows reading expands worlds, sharpens minds, and fuels creativity. But fewer of us are making time for it.

It’s time for the nation to Go All In.
For more information see https://goallin.org.uk/

Come and find your next read at Eyam Book Barn. The easy way to find authors new to you, to explore the world, find new interests and more.

Over the winter break we will be re-stocking and refreshing our shelves, come in and see what gems you can find.

Eyam Book Barn reopens on Saturday 14th February.

Winter Opening Hours

Weekends: There will be volunteers in the shop from 12 noon to 4pm
Wednesday to Friday: The shop will be unattended but open 11am until 4pm

Bring reading closer to culture in 2026. Discover ideas, events and ways to take part at home, school, work and in your community.

19/12/2025

Eyam Book Barn will close for the winter break at 4pm on Sunday 21st December and will re-open in time for the February Half Term holidays on Saturday 14th February 2026.

Over the break, we can be contacted on [email protected].

Wishing all our customers, donors and volunteers a very happy Christmas and looking forward to seeing you all again in 2026.

20/11/2025

As we approach the end of another year's trading, we'd like to send a huge thank you for your support to all our volunteers, to all our donors, to all our customers and especially to Anne and Paul at Delightful Living, who open the shop for us during the week.

As a result of your generosity during the past year our Grants Committee, which met recently, has been able to award grants to several small local groups and organisations and has given a donation of £5.6K to Ashgate Hospice. The Hospice is so short of funding that they are currently only using 15 of their available 21 beds and they are going to have to reduce this to 6 beds in the near future. Please continue to support them in any way you can.

Wishing all our customers, donors and volunteers a very happy Christmas. See you all again in February!

Today is National Bookshop Day!

Please support your local charity bookshop by dropping in today and treating yourself to a book.

Eyam Book Barn is open right now!

22/08/2025

The Book Barn will be open 12 to 4pm each day as usual, over the Bank Holiday weekend. In addition the shop will be open on Bank Holiday Monday from 12.30 until 4pm.

24/05/2025

Eyam Book Barn will be open all the Bank Holiday weekend and throughout half term, opening hours 10.30am to 4pm.

We are in urgent need of more books, especially general fiction, crime & thriller, local interest, classics and history. Donations can be dropped off in the shop during opening hours.

We are looking for people to join our friendly band of volunteers. If you might be interested and want to find out more do ask one of our volunteers to find out what's involved. Alternatively you can contact us via email at [email protected].

10/02/2025

Eyam Book Barn reopening this Saturday, 15th February after the winter break.
Our opening hours are:
Weekends: 12 noon to 4pm
Wednesday to Friday: 11am until 4pm approximately.
When the Book Barn is unattended, please pay for your books next door at Delightful Living, the award-winning lifestyle store. Payment is by cash or card.

This year, because of reduced selling space, we are concentrating on selling our most popular lines, which include general fiction, crime and thriller, classics and children's books. We are also stocking local interest books, including local guidebooks, walking and climbing, all of which are popular with visitors to the area. Our range of non-fiction books is much more limited than previously.

If you are looking for a particular book, please get in touch. We can let you know if we have it in stock and put it on one side for you to collect. If you don’t live locally, we can generally organise home delivery, at cost.

We are recruiting people for our friendly team of volunteers. We operate a flexible system of shifts to suit everyone, and we have regular social events where the volunteers can get together and meet each other. Please do get in touch to find out more.

Donations are welcome, but please no dictionaries, encyclopedias, or manuals as these date quickly. If you are not sure if your books are suitable, please get in touch to check before you bring them in, as we have very limited storage space now.

Please contact us via our page or via email ([email protected]) with any queries that you may have.

The Book Barn will be open Wednesdays to Fridays 11ish to 4ish and Saturdays and Sundays 12 noon to 4pm., up until Christmas.
It will then close until 15th February 2025, when it will reopen for the Half Term holidays.
If you have books to donate during our winter closure please contact us on [email protected] and we will organise a mutually convenient time to open up for you.
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all our donors and customers for their support over this past year.
We hope to see you all again in 2025.

30/10/2024

We've had a bumper year for sales this year, so we will be able to award more grants than usual. If your local group or organisation has a project in mind and would like to apply to us for a grant towards it, please email us, [email protected], for an application form. Applications close on 30th November.

As a result of our bumper sales, we urgently need new stock! Donations of books, maps and jigsaw puzzles can be dropped off when the shop is open, Tuesday to Friday 11am to 4pm, Saturday and Sunday 12 noon to 4pm, until 4th November, after that not open on Mondays or Tuesdays. If these times aren't suitable for you, please email us to arrange an alternative time.
We mainly need fiction books, including classics and children's, plus local interest books and maps. We can only accept a small number of non-fiction books as we are very short of storage space. Please no reference books, text books or manuals as these will go out-of-date. If in doubt, please contact us to check. Thank you!
