We're really grateful for the support from Budleigh Salterton Ladies Choir. Thank you ladies.

Please support this concert and help raise funds to go towards the running costs of our station.

No one in National Coastwatch Institution is paid, we’re all volunteers from the CEO down to the watchkeepers.

Our last concert of the season is on Saturday 6th June, 7pm at Holy Trinity Church in Exmouth. Please join us for an evening of fun and music celebrating our beautiful coast and countryside. Our policy is to always support local charities and therefore in supporting NCI Exmouth we were assured that all monies raised for them will go directly to fund the Coastwatch team in Exmouth who have been having a busy time looking out for us all during this spell of beautiful weather. Tickets Β£10 on the door.

Thinking of tombstoning this summer? Think twice.

Hidden rocks, changing water depths, cold water shock and strong currents can all turn a jump into a life-changing incident. Once in the water, boat operators may not be able to see you until it’s too late.

If heading into the water, always swim between the red and yellow flags at a Lifeguarded beach.

No jump is worth the risk. Stay safe around the coast and look out for each other.

"SPOT THE WATCHKEEPER"

Today, 5th June 2026 sees the official launch of our NCI national mascot – 'SPOT the watchkeeper'.

We are lucky enough to have aquired a SPOT costume at Exmouth to be used at our events, although he/she will be be off to doggy day care at other local stations when they request him.

Spot has made his/her debut appearance at Exmouth with 60 children from Rydon Primary School, Exmouth.

🚨 Tasking #51

πŸ“… 29/05/26 1953hrs

The team were tasked to reports of a person in difficulty in the water at Dawlish Warren. On arrival, the casualty had managed to self recover and prevent the situation from worsening. We gave some safety advice and symptoms to look out for incase they had ingested or inhaled any water. The team then stood down.

🚨 Tasking #52

πŸ“… 04/06/26 0904hrs

We were tasked to assist with 2 people cut off by the tide in Lympstone. We were stood down prior to arrival with a successful outcome.

Now we are officially in summer its important to follow some useful safety tips:

⛱️ Always swim at a lifeguarded beach and between the Red and Yellow Flags.

⛱️ Always have means of communication with you, a phone is ideal.

⛱️ If you get into the trouble in the water Float To Live.

RNLI Lifeguards South & East Devon share lots of safety advice and they lifeguard our local beach's over the summer. Check out their page to see dates their lifeguards are working!

Our volunteer watchkeepers join National Coastwatch Institution to give something back to the local community. Here's one Exmouth volunteer's story -

"We started visiting Exmouth 4 or 5 years ago, and when we got the opportunity to come here regularly, I was looking for a way to get involved in the local community. Walking past the lookout, I saw the signs for National Coastwatch Exmouth and thought that it looked interesting and something I could do, and went in to chat about what watchkeepers do. I signed up almost immediately, and after a few months wait, started on the comprehensive, hands-on training course and am now a member of the team. I had no maritime experience at all, but the trainers take full account of that.

Every watch is different. Sometimes in the winter we might see nothing, while on a summer watch, there will be dozens of ribs, yachts, dinghies and paddleboarders passing the lookout. Fortunately only occasionally, we will be in contact with the Coastguard and RNLI Exmouth to assist with an emergency.

I've been made to feel really welcome in the team by my colleagues. It's been part of the reason for us deciding to move permanently to Exmouth."
