Exminster Twinning Association was established over forty years ago, with our twinned village of Sannerville in Normandy. In both villages, our members range from young families, to older couples and individuals (some of whom have been members of twinning for much of those 40 years!). Each family is 'twinned' with one in France - there have been some firm friendships made, but its often more about
the group dynamic than just the relationship with your host family. There's a great sense of community - We have been hosting virtual quizzes this year, but in normal times we have hosted cheese & wine tastings, garden parties, bbqs, cake sales. safari dinners, French language classes, and our annual Three Village Quiz night (alongside Starcross & Kenton Twinning Associations). These events help raise funds for the association, but are also a great way to get together, keep in touch with or make new friends, and build our local community. But the main event are our annual hostings - each year in May/June we either visit France, staying with our host families, or they come to us. This is a full-on, but thoroughly enjoyable, 2.5 days with organised day trips & evening soirees for the full group, plus a couple of evenings with your family (although many of us still get together in groups for this too). In recent years we've visited Mont St. Michel (including some of us walking 7k across the sand to get there!), the war memorials and landing beaches, and taken a nature-trail boat trip. When our families have visited Exminster we've been to Dartmoor Zoo, taken historical walking tours of Topsham and Exeter Cathedral. In both countries, fundraising efforts help to fully fund the trips of visiting families (apart from transport) and, if possible, to subsidise the cost of host family trips. We also have a volunteer committee that organises our fundraising events and all trips - but members are free to get involved as much or as little as they like. We're very pleased to welcome new members at any point.
