It’s a little round-up of what’s been happening in our community, what’s coming up, and some of the people, projects and opportunities that make Whipton such a brilliant place to live.

I’m looking forward to heading along to St Katherines Priory’s wonderful, volunteer led, community cafe this morning. It’s open from 10am-2pm every Friday. There’s also a talk about the Exeter Air Raids by Chris Wiseman at 7:30pm this evening.

At the last Book Buddies group, it was exciting to hear about possible plans for Whipton Hall to welcome a Little Free Library.

We’re already lucky to have two lovely Little Free Libraries locally, Whipton Little Free Library on Thackeray Road and Barberry Close Little Free Library , where people can swap books.

We also chatted about creating a map of Little Free Libraries in Whipton and the surrounding areas, helping people discover them and perhaps even inspiring a Little Free Library walk!

Do you have the skills to help create a simple, accessible map? Perhaps you have experience with online maps, or could draw a map.

Book Buddies offers another lovely opportunity to connect with others through a shared love of reading.
Their next evening session is next Wednesday, 21st October. They also run daytime sessions for those who would prefer to meet during the day.

It was great fun talking books, and many other things, yesterday evening at the Whipton Book Club. 

The group were chatting about this month’s book The Midnight Library.

There are currently a couple of spaces for anyone who would like to join in. The group meets on the second Wednesday evening of each month at the Star inn and are connected through a WhatsApp group to keep in touch between meetings.

If you fancy joining, let me know and I can add you to the WhatsApp group.

It was lovely to have a meeting today to talk about Thackeray Park Wildlife Park

There’s still lots of compost to be moved, and Stephanie would really appreciate an extra pair of hands. If you live locally and have a bit of time to spare, please get in touch. Perhaps Good-gym can help?!

Two more dates for gardening together are planned for Saturday 24th October and Friday 6th November. Posters with times and further details will follow soon.

The group would love a noticeboard for the garden. If you have the skills to put a sturdy post in the ground for it to be attached to, they’d be really grateful for your help.

They’re also looking for donations of:

* Paving slabs
* Hand trowels and hand forks
* A couple of sturdy garden forks
* Secateurs

It’s lovely to see the Whipton Houseplant idea starting to grow!

We now have a small group of people keen to come together, share their love of plants and swap house plant cuttings.

A big thank you to Clive from YouGrowCiC, who has kindly offered to bring along some plant pots and houseplant compost.

We’ve created a WhatsApp group to connect everyone who’s interested, and next will look at possible dates, times and venues.
