We know that rising energy costs can put pressure on household budgets. That's why we work with local organisations to help residents access trusted advice and support when they need it. 💚

Last year, Cornerstone referred 13 residents to ECOE Advice, helping them access specialist support with energy costs and improve their financial wellbeing. Residents received guidance on benefits, grants, energy bills, tariffs and heating systems, helping them to stay warm and comfortable at home.

ECOE Advice is a Devon-based charity that helps people reduce energy costs, improve home comfort and access financial support. Their team provides practical, tailored advice on topics including:

- Reducing energy bills
- Accessing grants and financial support
- Energy-saving tips and simple home improvements
- Help with energy suppliers and tariffs
- Support with damp and mould concerns
- Advice on heating systems and controls
- Referrals for benefits and debt advice

ECOE Advice supports households across Exeter, Mid Devon, East Devon, Teignbridge and Torbay, offering phone support, home visits and community-based advice services.

We're here to help

📢 Thank you to everyone who took part in our recent Code of Conduct consultation. 📢

We asked for your feedback to help review the standards, values and behaviours expected of everyone who represents Cornerstone, including staff, Board members and involved residents.

Your comments and suggestions have helped shape the updated Code of Conduct, and we've now published a summary of the feedback received and the changes we've made as a result.

Damp and Mould: What causes mould? 🤔

Did you know? Mould needs moisture to grow. It often appears when warm, moist air meets cold surfaces such as windows, walls or ceilings. You might notice:

- Water droplets on windows 💧
- Black or green spots on walls or ceilings ⚫🟢
- A musty smell 👃

The good news is that small changes around the home can help reduce condensation and mould. We'll be regularly sharing simple tips to help keep your home healthy and comfortable.

We are pleased to announce that our Annual and Financial reports for 2025/2026 are now live on the website. You can check them both out here:

Highlights include:

🌟We completed 4988 responsive repairs
🌟64 homes have had their windows replaced
🌟 88.6% of residents are satisfied with the overall service provided
🌟 89% were satisfied that we are easy to deal with
🌟We supported 11 residents in hardship with vouchers for shopping or energy and issued 52 foodbank vouchers.

It's UK Savings Week 💷

This week is a good opportunity to take a little time to think about your finances. Saving isn't always about putting away large amounts of money. Even small changes can help you feel more in control of your money.

Take a few minutes to:

✅ Check any subscriptions you no longer use
✅ Review your household spending
✅ Think about what money you have coming in each week or month, and what you spend
✅ Set a realistic savings goal, such as putting a small amount aside each week for Christmas
✅ Look for simple ways to reduce everyday costs

Understanding how much money you have available each week can help you make informed decisions about what you can spend and save.

Remember, every little bit adds up.

In the wrong hands gas work can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions or carbon monoxide poisoning. If there’s a problem with your gas appliance, don’t try to fix it yourself. Always use a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. 👍

We're delighted to share the finished community mural at Beacon Avenue, created by local artist Steve McCracken. 🎨

The mural was inspired by our residents who attended the Community Day back in July. It has transformed the space into a brighter and more welcoming place for residents and visitors.

As we celebrate 100 years of Cornerstone, we're proud to continue investing in our communities and creating places where people feel they belong.

A huge thank you to Steve for bringing the wall to life and to everyone who shared their opinions and ideas.

Thinking ahead about heating costs? It may be warm now, but preparing early can help before the colder months arrive.

- Check your heating is working
- Learn how to use your thermostat and timer
- Give regular meter readings
- Check whether support with energy bills is available
- Contact your supplier early if you're worried about paying your bills
