Today, The Hall Exeter hosted a full-day training session for Seetec, bringing together social workers, probation officers, and professionals working to support people transitioning out of the criminal justice system.
The session was led by the remarkable OBE, FCGI - criminologist, researcher, and one of the UK's leading voices on youth violence and child criminal exploitation. Dr Smart left school at 14, went on to gain a First Class degree, an MA with Distinction, and a doctorate examining county lines and child criminal exploitation. He played a central role in developing the SOS Project at St Giles Trust, now one of London's most recognised violence desistance programmes.
What an incredible privilege to host work this meaningful - and a reminder of why we value The Hall being a space for the community in the fullest sense of the word.
Do look him up , or even better give him a mic in your space - Lets shine all the light on this extraordinary work.

Big news for The Hall Exeter. After 18 months of planning negotiations, a Stannah Model 320 outdoor stairlift is coming to Stepcote Hill this spring.

We'll be honest, we had our doubts. The Grade I listed sandstone of St Mary Steps Church (c.1150) was always going to be a sticking point. But the comfort and wellbeing of our guests has prevailed, and we're glad something is finally being done. Accessibility on Stepcote Hill has been a disgrace for years.

Work begins this spring. The seat is plastic and wipe-clean - see our AI mock up of the final design below:

Join us as we celebrate the Winter Solstice for an evening of traditional music and dance! Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or have two left feet, come mark the longest night with live tunes, friendly faces, and the delightful chaos of community ceilidh dancing. A live Ceilidh Band and caller will bring the vibrant driving rhythms of traditional English dance music.

Expect laughter, possibly some confusion over which way to turn, and the kind of fun that comes from everyone figuring it out together. No experience needed - just bring your enthusiasm! Stilettos will finish you off… Trainers recommended!
