Providing housing and support for those with disabilities We have already established houses in which adults with a variety of disabilities live.

Rainbow Living is a charity with a Christian ethos that seeks to provide housing and support for people with disabilities, particularly learning disabilities. They have 24 hour care and support delivered by a care provider. As a charity we tailor the accommodation to meet our tenants’ needs & provide long-term security of tenure for as long as they wish. We will work with a care provider to encourage and support people with disabilities to make their own choices, to continue to learn and to work towards achieving their full potential.

🌈 100km completed... and still going strong! 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

A huge congratulations to Catherine and Alex, who have now reached 100km on their incredible fundraising walk for Rainbow Living Southwest.

They've been setting off at dawn to beat the heat, passing through beautiful Portuguese villages and miles of fields harvesting tomatoes, peppers and corn. Their journey has now brought them to Golegã, following a challenging climb to Santarém, a city known for its stunning churches.

What has stood out most along the way is the kindness of the people they've met. One local woman even stopped her van to give them a large bottle of water before a long uphill stretch, a simple gesture that made a big difference.

Every step is helping to raise funds so Rainbow Living can continue providing safe, supportive homes and opportunities for people with learning disabilities.

We're incredibly grateful for their determination and for everyone who has supported them so far. Keep going, Catherine and Alex, we're cheering you on all the way.

🚶‍♀️ Catherine & Alex's Camino Challenge - Week 1
This week Catherine and Alex took their first steps on the Camino de Santiago, setting off from Lisbon Cathedral and beginning their journey towards Santiago de Compostela.
Walking through Lisbon's historic streets, they joined a tradition followed by pilgrims for over a thousand years.

Day 7: A Royal Recognition for Extraordinary Volunteers

🏆 A Day to Remember

Today marks a special moment in Rainbow Living's history as we celebrate receiving the King's Award for Voluntary Service.

This award is the highest recognition a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and represents over 20 years of dedication, commitment and hard work from our volunteers.

While the award bears the name of the King, its real value lies in what it recognises: people giving their time to make a difference in the lives of others.

For Rainbow Living, that difference can be seen in every home we provide, every tenant supported to live independently, and every family who has peace of mind knowing their loved one has a safe and secure place to call home.

This achievement belongs to every volunteer who has served as a trustee, director, fundraiser, supporter or advocate over the years. It belongs to those who helped establish Rainbow Living, those who guided it through challenges, and those who continue to shape its future.

We are incredibly proud to receive this honour, but even more proud of the community behind it.

Day 5: Behind the Scenes

🏆 Behind Every Home, There Are Volunteers

When people see Rainbow Living's homes, they see safe, comfortable places where adults with learning disabilities can live independently.

What they don't always see is the work happening behind the scenes to make that possible.

For more than 20 years, our volunteers have given their time and expertise to keep Rainbow Living strong. They have worked on budgets, governance, property improvements, fundraising, strategic planning and countless day to day decisions that help the charity thrive.

Many of these conversations happen around kitchen tables, in evening meetings, over phone calls and in spare moments alongside jobs, families and other commitments.

It isn't always visible work, but it matters.

Every hour volunteered helps ensure that tenants have secure homes and that Rainbow Living can continue providing quality supported housing for the future.

As we celebrate receiving the King's Award for Voluntary Service, we want to recognise not only the public achievements, but also the dedication, commitment and hard work that happens quietly behind the scenes every day.

When Rainbow Living received the King's Award for Voluntary Service, it recognised the work of an organisation. But at the heart of that organisation are people.

People who give up evenings to attend meetings.

People who use their professional skills to help our charity grow.

People who organise events, raise funds, support projects, maintain properties and help ensure that adults with learning disabilities have access to safe, secure homes.

Most of our volunteers do this quietly, without expecting recognition. They volunteer because they believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live independently and be part of their community.

The King's Award shines a light on that commitment and dedication.

Day 2: 20 Years of Volunteer Dedication

🏆 20 Years of Volunteers Making a Difference

Rainbow Living was created by volunteers with a simple but powerful vision: that people with learning disabilities should have the opportunity to live independently in a home of their own.

Over the past 20 years, volunteers have given their time, expertise and commitment to turn that vision into reality.

They have attended meetings after work, managed finances, maintained properties, organised events, raised funds, supported tenants and families, and guided the charity through every challenge and success along the way.

For much of our history, Rainbow Living was run entirely by volunteers. Their dedication laid the foundations for the homes and opportunities that tenants enjoy today.

The King's Award for Voluntary Service recognises the impact of volunteer groups across the UK. For us, it is a celebration of two decades of dedication, compassion and determination from people who believed in making a difference.
