2nd Exeter Scouts is looking for three volunteers to join our Trustee Board: ⁣
⁣
𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐞 – 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 & 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝 ⁣
Help us attract and support future volunteers and trustees. ⁣

Perfect for someone who enjoys people, leadership, networking or encouraging others. ⁣
⁣

Help oversee finances and support planning for our proposed new Scout Hut project. ⁣

Ideal for someone with experience in finance, bookkeeping, budgeting or business. ⁣

Every week, around 200 young people attend 2nd Exeter Scouts. ⁣
⁣
Learn new skills. ⁣
⁣
Go on adventures. ⁣
⁣
Make friends. ⁣
⁣
Grow in confidence. ⁣
⁣
And behind all of this are volunteers helping make it happen. ⁣
⁣
We are proud of what has been achieved, but we also know there is more to do. ⁣
⁣
Today, we have a waiting list of around 𝟏𝟎𝟎 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 wanting to join. ⁣
⁣
We are exploring exciting plans for a 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐇𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 to support more children, more activities and a stronger future for local Scouting. ⁣

To help us build that future, we are looking for a small number of volunteers to join our Trustee team. ⁣
⁣
You do not need previous Scouting experience. ⁣
⁣
You do not need to camp. ⁣
⁣
You do not need to wear a uniform. ⁣
⁣
You simply need a little time and a desire to help young people thrive. ⁣
⁣
Over the coming weeks we will be recruiting three important volunteer opportunities that will help shape the next chapter of 2nd Exeter Scouts. ⁣

2nd Exeter Scouts is looking for a friendly and organised volunteer to join our Trustee Board Team as 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲. ⁣
⁣
This role sits at the heart of the Group’s governance and supports the Trustees in helping the Scout Group run smoothly and plan for the future. ⁣
⁣
You do 𝐧𝐨𝐭 need previous Scouting experience, and you definitely do not need to know how to tie knots or sleep in tents! ⁣
⁣
The role is flexible and should take around one hour per week. ⁣
⁣

2nd Exeter Scouts supports local young people through Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, helping them build confidence, friendships and skills for life. ⁣
⁣
Behind every great Scout Group is a strong Trustee Board helping with governance, finance, planning and future development, including exciting ambitions around a proposed new Scout Hut and community facility. ⁣
⁣
We are looking for someone to help keep our Trustees organised and connected. ⁣
⁣
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐃𝐨? ⁣
⁣
Think of this role as the organiser and coordinator of the Trustee team. ⁣
⁣
Typical tasks include: ⁣
⁣
Helping arrange Trustee meetings ⁣
Preparing and sharing agendas ⁣
Taking notes and recording actions from meetings ⁣
Keeping Trustee records organised ⁣
Supporting communication between Trustees ⁣
Helping ensure governance actions stay on track ⁣
Assisting with administrative tasks linked to Trustee activities and projects ⁣
Supporting longer-term planning and governance where needed ⁣
⁣
This role supports the Trustee Board only and does not involve managing Scout leaders or running activities with young people. ⁣
⁣

2nd Exeter Scouts are proud to have been a fixture in Heavitree for over 100 years, providing adventure and skills for life for the young people of Exeter.

However, with an ever expanding group, we have outgrown our home here in Heavitree, and with land at a premium in Exeter, we have had to think outside the box a little on where we can build a new hut large enough to house all of our young people.

That is why we are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with the European Space Agency which will see us build a brand new purpose built hut on the moon.

Our existing hut will be knocked down to make way for a new launch pad, in order to provide transport to and from our new hut from right here in Heavitree.

At a cost of approximately $150million per trip, parents may see a slight increase in termly subs in order for us to provide this travel. However, in order to minimise these costs, we will be looking for parent volunteers to captain our new space ship. Full training will be provided.

As an added bonus, on completing their first session in our new hut, all Scouts will automatically qualify for their Scouts Astronautics badge!

Dear community member,

For over 100 years, 2nd Exeter Scout Group has been part of the heart of our community, helping young people grow in confidence, kindness and courage. But our future is hanging in the balance.

Today, we’re proud to be one of the largest Scout Groups in Devon, welcoming around 150 young people every week across Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. Behind every campfire, craft table and muddy walk is something special: volunteers who choose to give a little time to make a big difference.

And right now, we’d love some new faces to join us — especially to support our Squirrel and Beaver sections (ages 4–8).

Why volunteer?
Because it’s fun.
Because it brings joy.
Because you get to see the world through the eyes of a young person who is discovering nature, teamwork and confidence for the very first time.

You don’t need experience.
You don’t need to commit every week.
You don’t need to be “Scouty”.

What you do need is:
🟠 A bit of time (even occasionally helps)
🟠 A willingness to join in
🟠 A desire to help young people in Exeter thrive

In return, you’ll gain:

Being a volunteer isn’t about filling a gap; it’s about choosing to be part of something meaningful.
Without a few more volunteers stepping forward, we may be forced to make the heart breaking decision to close some section nights after Easter. This is something we desperately want to avoid. The good news? It doesn’t take many people to make a huge difference.

Today, we took our donations for Exeter Foodbank to HQ. Another fantastic effort by all squirrels, beavers, cubs and scouts. Well done everyone for helping out others this season.
