🌊 From sea glass to the national stage.

Meet Ocean Bloom, a remarkable Company Programme team from The Ilfracombe Academy in rural North Devon, one of the most geographically remote and economically challenged parts of the region.

Faced with limited access and long travel times, the team could have stepped back. Instead, they leaned in, showing up at every Young Enterprise event, refining their ideas, and supporting one another through a journey that took them all the way to the UK Company of the Year finals in Manchester.

Their business? A sustainable line of handcrafted trinket trays and sea glass jewellery, collected during beach cleans. But their mission went beyond profit; they ran sustainability workshops in local primary schools, extending their impact to the next generation.

πŸ’¬ β€œWe realised where our individual strengths lay – finance, marketing, creativity. By helping each other and sharing honest feedback, we created something we’re truly proud of.”

Ocean Bloom tackled everything from broken pottery to glaze discolouration and glue failures, and turned those into lessons on adaptability, quality, and teamwork under pressure.

This is exactly what Young Enterprise is about: not just building businesses, but building resilience, self-belief, and purpose.

πŸ‘ Congratulations to Ocean Bloom, proof that ideas born in remote places can still make a national impact.
