Youth work is about more than activities - it's about building futures.
With youth unemployment back on the news and in the spotlight, we're proud of the opportunities SPACE Youth Services provides for young people to gain real-life experience, develop leadership skills and build their confidence for the workplace.
This includes the 53 young people that currently volunteer across our 8 youth centres!
In April, we celebrated volunteers who had contributed a combined 950 hours supporting their peers, with a further 370 hours contributed by those working towards milestone awards – that's 1,320 hours of volunteering in total.
Our young volunteers don't just support sessions. They also:
✅ Help with staff interviews
✅ Assess community grant applications
✅ Take part in consultations
✅ Support events
✅ Improve and redecorate youth centres
✅ Work alongside Devon Wildlife Trust on conservation projects
Through volunteering, leadership opportunities, work experience, internships and apprenticeships, young people are developing the communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills that employers value.
At SPACE we aren't just responding to what's trending - we're already helping young people gain the experience they need to thrive.
