A huge well done to Devon Army Cadet Force's Cadet Company Sergeant Major Alex Rubery, who ran his first half marathon last month in support of ACCT UK.

Alex took on the Plymouth Half Marathon as part of Take ACCTion, our cadet challenge that raises funds for cadet wellbeing, and set a new personal best. Not wishing to stop there, Cadet CSM Rubery has already signed up for a 10k later this year and hopes to run the 2027 London Marathon too!

Alex’s commitment is already making an impact, with fellow cadets inspired to sign up for next year’s half marathon. A brilliant example of cadets backing cadets.

Congratulations to Sgt Chinnakerdchok of B Company on successfully completing his Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expedition in Eryri, North Wales.

Over five days, he joined fellow Army Cadet participants in tackling challenging routes and conditions, demonstrating resilience, determination, and teamwork throughout the expedition.

The Gold DofE Award is a significant achievement that requires commitment, perseverance, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone.

Completing the expedition is a testament to the hard work and dedication shown along the way. A fantastic accomplishment and one to be proud of.

Well done!

On Wednesday 13th May 2026, at Exeter City Guildhall, Cadet CSM Parry of C “Cambrai” Company received a Lord Mayor of Exeter Commendation, one of only seven awarded this year.

The recognition followed two public speaking engagements at the Rifles Bugle Breakfast and a Ten Tors event, where he spoke to audiences of employers, senior Army personnel, and civilian leaders about his Army Cadet Force career and experiences.

His professionalism, dedication, and passion for Devon ACF were highly praised by both audiences. The Lord Mayor of Exeter was particularly impressed by his commitment to the organisation and outstanding representation of Devon Army Cadet Force.

Okehampton Detachment receives £500 donation to boost its training facilities.

The donation was received from Devon & Cornwall Police's Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA). The money will be used to bring interactive screens into our cadet classroom, modernising how we deliver training across subjects like first aid, navigation and fieldcraft planning. This will give our cadets access to the same digital tools used across the Armed Forces and emergency services.

A huge thank you to PCSO Watts for sponsoring the application and personally presenting the donation to Lance Corporal O'Brien on parade night. 🙏

Detachment Commander 2Lt Sam Caunter said: "This project will benefit cadets of all ages by improving teamwork, confidence and practical skills."
