Entries for the 2026 SLSGB Open National Surf Lifesaving Championships are now open!

This September, Fistral Beach in Newquay will welcome the nation’s top open surf lifesavers for three days of high-speed racing, surf battles and lifesaving competition.

From board and ski racing to surf teams, relays, Taplin and Oceanman/Oceanwoman events, the Open Championships will bring clubs from across the UK together for an action-packed weekend of competition, camaraderie and lifesaving sport.

The GBR Lifesaving Team is seeking applications for a Volunteer Team Physiotherapist/Sports Therapist to support athletes competing at the Lifesaving World Championships 2026 in Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth), South Africa. The successful candidate(s) will join the team management and coaching staff, providing injury management, athlete welfare and performance support throughout the Championships.

This is a unique opportunity to work within a high-performance international sporting environment and contribute to the success of GB's leading lifesaving athletes. The role is voluntary, with return flights, accommodation, team uniform and approved in-country expenses provided. The successful applicant(s) must be available to travel from 25 November to 7 December 2026.

Join us for one of our exciting National Week Nipper Clinics, designed to help competitors build confidence, develop their skills and gain valuable knowledge of the beach environment a day head of competition.

Session Times
There are three 1-hour clinics available.

Session 1: 1:00pm – 2:00pm – 8&9 year olds
Session 2: 2:30pm – 3:30pm – 10&11 year olds
Session 3: 4:00pm – 5:00pm – 12&13 Year olds
Maximum participants: 75 per session (225 places available in total).

Cost
£10 per participant

Fundraiser to support the GBR Lifesaving Team, helping our athletes represent Great Britain on the international stage.

What to Expect
Our experienced coaches and athletes will share practical tips and techniques to help Nippers prepare for competition, including:

Developing race skills and confidence.
Understanding the beach and surf conditions.
Tips and tricks to take into the National Championships.
An opportunity to train on the competition beach the day before racing.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience and should not be missed!

Water Safety Volunteers Needed
To help the clinics run safely, we are looking for parents and guardians who hold a suitable water safety qualification to assist during the sessions.
