Zero Mile Gardens

Zero Mile Gardens Zero Mile Gardens CIC sets up food growing spaces with and for the community so it can grow its own food locally.

It runs a range of activities around sustainable food growing skills. It also runs a small vegetables and herbs plant nursery.

Here are our lovely workshops facilitators and collaborators for our next week's Garden Summer 🥰🍃

Basketmaker Tyler Haddad
Megan Dowsett with her nature doodles
Lou Jones with her nature based craft to support wildlife

Sonia will be there with us on Sunday for beautiful facepainting and joyful sparklyness

Micky Bimble, aka Dr Pandemonium Fish, will have a show at 1 pm on Sunday. Before that will help you having a go at juggling, hula hoops, or spinning plates!

We feel so honored to work with these amazing people and look forward to seeing many of you with us.

We will also run some gardening sessions on Thursday (our usual one at 10am till 1 pm) and seedsaving sessions for family in the afternoon.

There are still space to book on the various activities - see links in our bio/website
No need to book for Sunday's party

Note that the afternoon session with Tyler on Friday (string and bag making) is open for booking for anyone 12+
All other sessions are for children only.

We mulched again yesterday some of our planters, using wool from sheep and kindly donated by Julie at - it was lovely to pay a visit to the garden and the farm too 🍎🐑🐑🐄🍃🌿

We've been looking for ways of keeping our plants alive. Along with mulching, ollas have been real saviours - and our colourful watering cans too!

Was it a gardening session ? A breakfast at the garden? A birthday celebration ? Or all at once ? We may have weird faces ... it is because we're stuffing them with a selection of cakes - banana bread, rhum and raisins - and figs from Mark's garden.

We really like to grow plants that produce food, but we also love flowers because they bring even more beauty and joy to a garden. Nastirtium leaves and flowers or calendula petals are also lovely in salads. Sunflowers seeds are delicious to eat, directly from the flower head, or after toasting!

We managed to keep a few flowers going, despite the drought ...

We are so happy to launch our Garden Summer, 2026 edition 🍀🌞🌻

This is a week of gardening, art, craft, learning and joyful activities in the garden for children and families.

We are working again with and 🩷
We will also have a couple of workshops on natural fibre making with Tyler - so we can learn how to process brambles or nettles growing around us, making bracelets or little bags to take home 🎋🌾

We also have a garden party on Sunday 30th August (10am-4pm) with more crafts, beauty, and joy. Highlights include Micky Bimble aka Dr Pandemonium Fish' show and circus workshops (details for the day will be published here in time....)

You can find the programme for the week on our website (events page) or eventbrite. Booking is required, with a small fee of £3 for any activity - free places also available if need be. The garden party on Sunday is free for all.

Some pictures of our summer harvests and of future things to come. The padrón peppers, tomatoes and basil are doing great in the tunnel! And the three sisters (Sweetcorn (painted hill), honey it and runner beans) are growing well outside.

It finally rained today! In the meantime we’ve been fighting the heat and drought together, taking turns to water and filling up our ollas and wine bottles. Some mulching technique as well.

What a year.... Just finished a year long course with the School for Social Entrepreneurs, and taking a moment by the river Exe to celebrate and reflect.

It was an amazing experience, on a carefully crafted, extremely rich and generous programme. I felt so privileged and lucky to be part of it. It was amazing to meet fellow South West social entrepreneurs and to share joys, successes and struggles together.

I didn't only get a certificate but also a lovely present from my beautiful fellow Lucy Mann, aka , and : a banana skin soil enhancer made from food waste's residual product. We will try it very soon at the garden.

Heartfelt thanks to all of you, fellows on the cohort, and all the trainers and facilitators for the programme. 🙏🌱🩷

What a day! We had a lovely time at Love St Thomas Summer Festival this Saturday🌈☀️

We were surrounded by other great traders, fun music, good food, a flea circus and shiny bubbles! The day captured how wonderful the St Thomas community is, and how special it is to be part of it!

Thank you to everyone who came round to our stall to get some plants, chat or just say hi. It was lovely to see so many of you! 🌱😊
