Exeter Foodbank

Exeter Foodbank Exeter Foodbank is a Christian charity providing emergency food to local people in crisis. How a Foodbank works...
1.

Non-perishable food is donated by the public, maybe at a supermarket collection, harvest festival or drop off point across the city.
2. Volunteers collect the food and sort it at the warehouse.
3. Frontline care professionals, including Health Visitors, Social Workers, Connexions staff, CAB advisors, and many other organisations, give foodbank vouchers to people in crisis who they are working with

.
4. Foodbank vouchers are then exchanged for 3 days of food at the foodbank distribution centre.
5. Foodbank takes time to listen and signpost clients to further support. Exeter Foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust's UK-wide foodbank network. Exeter Foodbank Registered Charity Number 1128795.

Say hello to Rebecca! šŸ™Œ

She’s an amazing part of our team, always ready to lend a hand and spread positivity. We couldn’t do what we do without incredible volunteers like her šŸ’™

When asked why she volunteers here, this is what she said:

"I volunteer because it’s a really important service providing desperately needed support to people struggling with life - and also because it’s enjoyable, fun and interesting working with lots of different volunteers."

Drop a šŸ‘ in the comments to show Rebecca some love!

Tell your story šŸ’™

Every day at Exeter Foodbank, we see the real impact of kindness - and it’s all because of our incredible volunteers.

The words in these images come directly from the people you’ve supported… people who have felt your compassion, your time, and your care when they needed it most.

You are more than just volunteers.
You are a listening ear.
A friendly face.
A source of hope during difficult times.

It’s impossible to fully capture the difference you make, but these quotes say it better than we ever could. You remind people that they are not alone - and that truly matters.

From all of us, and from every person who has walked through our doors feeling uncertain and left feeling supported…

Thank you for everything you do. šŸ’«

Let’s hear it for Olwen! šŸ‘šŸ’›

With her bright smile and can-do spirit, Olwen brings joy wherever she goes. She’s always ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, and make everyone feel welcome - and we couldn’t imagine our team without her!

When asked why she volunteers, here is what she said:

"I’ve been a regular volunteer at the Foodbank for about 10 years now.
I get so much from meeting and working with the range of volunteers and clients.Ā
It feels so wrong that people who are struggling through circumstances beyond their control need to come to the Foodbank, but it’s good to help in a small way to make their day a bit better. And I get to enjoy meeting such a range of people - we often have a lot of laughs.
Retirement is wonderful but having a regular reason to get out and be somewhere matters to me. I hope to go on volunteering at the Foodbank for many more years. Unless it’s no longer needed, which would be by far the best outcome."Ā

Olwen, you’re an absolute star 🌈 Thank you for everything you do - you make volunteering look easy (and fun)!

"The French have two words they use to talk about aspects of social crisis: précarité for being in it and solidarité for the community response to it. I like them both. One conjures up the real sense of jeopardy that I felt when suddenly I became a single parent with a single source of income and things suddenly got very fragile. The other goes straight to the idea of a community standing together for the good of everyone in it. I felt that safety net too.

From donor to recipient, Foodbanks represent a massive teamwork project of community welfare and self-help. It’s absolutely essential work, and I feel privileged to be a part of it.ā€

We feel this quote needs nothing more, other than a huge thank you šŸ’›

We will always be in awe of the amazing kindness and community our volunteers exhibit every single day.

Everyone - Meet Jane! ā˜€ļø

Jane is one of our fantastic Supermarket Collectors (those heroes who collect the food from our collection points and deliver it to our store!) and she has been with us for almost 5 years!

When asked why she volunteers with us:

"I love helping out this wonderful organisation... Anyone who knows me well knows how much I love food - for me it was the best way for me to try and help. The thought of people going hungry and struggling to feed their families is very upsetting, so doing just a small thing to try and help made perfect sense. I take real pride in wearing my Foodbank tabard every week... I'm very proud to be part of an organisation that seeks to help people in my local area with such an important part of everyday life."

Without people like Jane, we would not be able to help the way we do. We consider ourselves very lucky 😁

40,000+ reasons to smile šŸ’š

That’s how many incredible volunteers give their time each year to support food banks like ours šŸ™Œ

At Exeter Foodbank, our volunteers are the heart of everything we do - from sorting donations to offering a warm welcome (and maybe a cuppa ā˜•). We couldn’t do it without you šŸ’š

✨ Want to feel good and do good? Volunteering isn’t just helping others - it’s joining a community, making friends, and being part of something bigger.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, we do have some roles available (full driving licence will be needed!).

Starting off our appreciation is the lovely Geoff!

Geoff has been with us for just over 4 years as a distribution volunteer.

We asked all of our volunteers "Why do you volunteer with us at the Foodbank", and his answer was as follows:

"I have been volunteering at the Exeter Foodbank for 4 years. It has been great to work alongside such a dedicated team of caring people. While we wish there was no need for us, it is a good feeling to watch a client who may come along with some trepidation, leave with a big smile, a bag of extras, the knowledge that someone cares and maybe a lot more hope"

We are so thankful for all of our volunteers, including Geoff and cannot thank them enough for all of the hard work they put in, the empathy they bring and the funny hats they absolutely rock.

Thank you šŸ’š

When an item in our store is below 50% of what we usually need for one month, it becomes a 'red' item.

We carry 40 different items.
24 of these are currently 'red'.
There are 17 items where we have one crate (or less) in the store.

Fortunately, we have most of the 'main' essentials.

This means that anyone coming to foodbank will get the food that they need - but may not get every item.

If you would like to support us in any way, please either:

a) Take a look at our Priority List (this was posted on here yesterday)
b) Support our 'Foodraiser' which is on Just Giving (every penny donated on this will go purely on food items)

Thanks so much for caring.
We all know just how difficult things are financially for so many people in the city.

To celebrate :
