🌿 A Quick Note About Tonight 🌿
A few people have asked about a link to join.
There isn’t a sign-up or link for this gathering.
I’ll simply be going live here on my page at 8pm UK time from the Welsh hills.
You can join by watching the live, lighting your candle wherever you are, or simply pausing for a quiet moment of peace.
Just before we begin, at 7:45pm, I’ll also put up a post here on the page where everyone can share photos or short videos of their candles, altars, or quiet moments.
Your flame.
Your space.

Sunday 1st February 2026

The ice is melting and the ground turns muddy and soft. The water cleanses and prepares the Earth womb to become fertile once again. In the hidden depth of the earth hitherto dormant seeds are beginning to germinate and life is stirring.

The Sun Child is gathering strength, the days are getting longer and light and warmth are beginning to return. Almost imperceptibly the Earth is quickening and the buds are beginning to swell.
Imbolc is a time of fasting and cleansing. The larder is getting sparser.

It is time to clean out, and get rid of old stuff in preparation of next season’s growth.

Brigid is not the goddess most people think she is. (Though you probably knew that.)

A lot of modern writing frames her as a quiet hearth goddess. Comfort. Domestic fire. Gentle warmth. Nope.

In early Irish sources like Sanas Cormaic, Brigid’s name is linked to breo-saigit meaning “fire arrow.”

She is credited with inventing keening, the vocal crying and wailing performed after death. She rules poetry, healing, and smithcraft. All transformative, powerful disciplines.

But here’s what really stood out when I went back to the Carmina Gadelica.

Brigid isn’t just associated with fire. She uses her breath to wake the earth from winter.

In Scottish Gaelic tradition, winter was sometimes called am mìos marbh (“the dead month”) or an ràithe marbh (“the dead quarter”). On Brigid’s Day, she uses her breath and her white wand and breath to reanimate the land itself.

After this awakening, a serpent associated with winter’s venom is drawn up from the earth and slithers away.

Brigid is not a passive hearth figure.
She’s the catalyst.

And she arrives this Sunday.

Only 1 week until Imbolc. The triple Goddess (Maiden, Mother and Crone) will be reborn as the young maiden Goddess. We will see life return to the earth as Snowdrops and Crocus start appear through the melting snow and frozen grounds. Animals will start to wake from hibernation. The young God is growing in strength as the Suns energy is getting stronger as days slowly become longer and warmer showing the first sparks of Spring.

In Welsh myth, Arawn, king of Annwn, rules not through conquest but through passage.
His hounds, the Cŵn Annwn, do not hunt to kill: they pursue across thresholds.

White with red ears, they are not creatures of ferocity, but of transition. Their baying signals that something is approaching — not necessarily death, but change. Speed, here, is not about possession. It is about crossing.

In this myth, the sighthound is not owned, trained, or commanded. It belongs to movement itself.
The greyhound will come later, on earth, disciplined and contained — but its deepest logic is already here.

The hound does not run the land.
It runs between worlds.
