Teamverrico Team Verrico is a charity (registration 1158126) with the aim of funding research and assisting people afflicted by cancer. Not for profit. EVER. Research 2.

Anna Verrico was 35 years old with a 5 month old son when she was told she had breast cancer. 9 months later, after a full surgical procedure and 6 cycles of chemotherapy which were said to have 'cured her' she was told the cancer had spread and was going to kill her. Anna did not accept that and we do not accept that as an inevitable outcome in every case. While Anna was ripped from us on 20 Nove

Sometimes a story is so honest, so deeply lived, that all we can do is pause.
Today, Mike Goodier speaks — and truly, Mike says it all.

💛 Our world stopped in February 2025.
Our son Lucas was just 10 years old when he was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.
Nothing can prepare you for hearing those words. The fear, uncertainty, and heartbreak that follow are impossible to describe. As parents, all we wanted to do was focus on helping our son through the fight of his life.
During the darkest days of our journey, Team Verrico stepped in and wrapped our family in kindness, compassion, and support. Their generosity has helped ease some of the burdens that cancer places on a family, allowing us to focus on what matters most—Lucas's treatment, health, and recovery.
We will never be able to fully express our gratitude for everything they have done and continue to do for us.
Team Verrico describe the cancer journey as:
"A long, hard and mostly joyless journey through grief, guilt, anger, denial, fear, isolation and anxiety."
As difficult as those words are to read, they reflect a reality that many families know all too well.
So, from one family currently living this reality, we have two messages:
❤️ If you can support Team Verrico, please do. Every donation, every fundraiser, every act of kindness helps them continue their mission to create more tomorrows for families facing cancer.
❤️ If your family is facing cancer, please don't be afraid to ask for help. We have always been a family that preferred to help others, but we've learned that sometimes strength means accepting support when you need it most.
And above all:
Never. Ever. Give Up.
With love and gratitude,
Mike, Dominique, Nathan & Lucas Goodier xx

Introducing Rachel, a mum of two, who has been undergoing treatment for Triple Negative Breast cancer for the past 18 months - she tells her story in her own words:

“I’ve done it. I just want to say a huge thank you to everything that Team Verrico have done to support me and family during the last 18 months. Team Verrico supported me with a second opinion consultation. This has been the hardest and darkest chapter of my life. I am now released into the wild to grow some hair and survive!

Work is shaping up a little less intense affording me time to focus on getting better ❤️‍🩹 travelling and hopefully giving back to those that helped me along the way.

If there is anything I can do at all please ask I would love 💕 to help. I am considering doing the Camino de Santiago next year and hope to fund raise.

Please thank Verrico it is not an understatement to say his choice words in that first zoom call prompted me to question my care and in doing so ensured I received exactly what I needed. That small nudge may very well have saved my life. I hope he realises the magnitude of Anna’s legacy 💕🙏🏻

Paul writes

‘U’ is for Utrecht

Alessandro joined me on this trip whilst Lucia stayed home as part of her GCSE revision plan. There was all the pathos of the wedding anniversary to wade through in my brain, but pushing through 26 miles is as good a thing as any to do and a lot better than drinking heavily. So run a marathon it was.

Utrecht is a really lovely alternative Dutch city to the capital. An easy train ride from Schippol, the team of Paul Pugh Ed James Kennedy Kay and I were staying close to the station. The expo itself was a non-event (literally a stall with number and T-shirt (see photo) pick up) so we entertained ourselves with a canal boat cruise, lots of pre-race food and a walk across the Miffy traffic light crossing. Those with children of a certain age will know who Miffy is.

Every cafe proprietor told us how lucky we were to be in Utrecht in the heat wave, which was unseasonal and so hot. This has been a familiar refrain throughout this marathon challenge. We met with our colleague Marije van de Langemheen for dinner and to talk global safety - Marije is a litigator in our Amsterdam office who is a Utrecht local and knew the very best place for dinner!

Race day dawned bright - and hot. 23 degrees on the start line, rising to 26 as the day progressed. Somewhat unusually, the marathon started at 10:30 am - the half marathon at 08:30 - a reversal of the way these things normally pan out. This meant all the runners were on the course through the heat of the way (and the winning finish times reflected this - 2:34 for the men’s race and 2:55 the women’s race).

The heat was relentless. There are sections of the route through woods and by the canal - these were a little cooler, but it did feel like the air itself was hostile and every water station needed a cup down the throat and a cup on the head. I did make a slight mistake by turning a cup of what I thought was water over my head which turned out to be a clear sports drink - my sunglasses turned sticky!

Locals were out in force with maybe 40 impromptu hose pipe cool down stations snaked from bystander outside taps in various places to cool the passing runners. On the fourth or fifth water station, a bucket with sponges was available - I took a couple and stuffed them down the back of my running vest to afford some cooling and dunked them in whatever liquid I could find as the race progressed.

Over the line, last of our group of four in a decent 4:28:39, Alessandro waiting on the line; quick beer; bus to the station then a train to the airport for a 18:00 flight.

Utrecht is a really scenic, lovely route. The support was right up there with a major - everyone was enthusiastic, cheering and all along the course. If the organisers could be persuaded to start at a traditional marathon time, it would derisk the event - there was one point where the whole marathon had to stop as someone had collapsed on a bend and paramedics were rushing to assist.

Many thanks for your support and sponsorship on this page; due to the data privacy that facebook has, we can’t see the names of those who donate through facebook but we want you to know just how grateful we are - we would like to thank you individually but cannot. Thanks to MCFT who continue to be the anchor sponsor for these runs and to Eversheds Sutherland. Thanks to my team mates for their company too; final donations link attached. Tallinn next in September - still time to train and join us!

Love and light

“Love is a curious thing. Makes a one man weep and another man sing.”
-Huey Lewis.

Tomorrow will be *30* years since I married Anna. Note the sideburns on the wedding photo. Obviously, as I was constantly reminded, I was ‘punching.’

June 1, 1996.

We were window cleaning to make ends meet. Aged 19. £47 in the bank on our wedding day. We were delighted that a lot of guests at the reception gave us cards with a tenner in. We catered with home made wine, brewed by a friend and everyone brought some food to share.

Feral. Full of potential. Living together in a 2 bedroom flat above a pharmacy on Ashby High Street, Scunthorpe. We couldn’t understand why the rent was only £160 a month until we realised that having a bedroom above traffic lights meant the sounds of the boy racers percolated every slumbering moment. It was the third or fourth attempted break in of the chemists and the first successful break in to the flat, where someone had taken an axe to the front door whilst we were out and tried to break through the floor to access the drugs in the shop below that persuaded us to move.

It’s bizarre to me that Anna has been gone close to 13 years. Would I have done it anyway, knowing the pain and anguish that was waiting for us in our thirties? Hell, yes. Many people never experience finding someone who can calm their soul and elevate them to be better. I was fortunate. Our kids are not small any more and are the ultimate legacy.

But there is another legacy, and that is Team Verrico. Today I’m in Utrecht, running Marathon 20 of my alphabet. I’m with my friends Kennedy Kay, Paul Pugh and Ed James. The charity is a no salary, no premises volunteer triage organisation - we connect people who need support with the relevant service and pay the bill. Counselling for children after a parent dies. Second opinions on Harley Street. Taxi fares to hospital for people who need them. White goods for those unable to afford them.

If you can help the Anna Verrico types currently going through it and the children like Alessandro and Lucia, I’d be honoured if you could look favourably in our direction with a charitable donation (link below).

Love and light - oh and

Tougher than diamonds and stronger than steel
But you won't feel nothin' 'til you feel
That’s the power of love

Meet Rebecca Naylor — mum of two and an incredible example of courage.
Rebecca has been diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer and has recently completed her chemotherapy treatment. With surgery planned for June, she’s stepping into the next stage of her journey with remarkable strength.

Rebecca wanted to share these words with the Team Verrico community:

"I can’t thank all at Team Verrico enough for their support over the past six months. The personal care packages, the Easter 🐣 hamper and the nursery support. I don’t know how I would have managed without the charity !!! I’m two weeks post chemo ending now and wow I am starting to feel human again. Ready for the next hurdles. How special it is what you all do to support families like us. It’s wild to think that isn’t anything without you guys. We appreciate all that you guys are doing now and always from Rebecca and family. X###

💛 Rebecca, we are right beside you and walking every step of this journey with you.

We’re incredibly proud to introduce Kirsty Ann Moore, who is taking on this year’s London Marathon and we can’t wait to cheer her on every step of the way.

Here's what Kirsty says.
"The training continues in Lanzarote ☀️ 🥵

You may or may not know that I’m running the London Marathon this year! 🏃🏼‍♀️👀

I was lucky enough to secure my place through Winterton Running Club, which means I didn’t need to raise money for my spot.

HOWEVER, I see this as the perfect opportunity to support an amazing local charity.

I’m fundraising for Teamverrico a charity dedicated to funding vital cancer research and supporting people affected by cancer.

Sadly, cancer affects 1 in 2 people in their lifetime, and every year hundreds of thousands of families in the UK are impacted by a diagnosis. Research and support services make a real difference in improving treatments, survival rates, and quality of life for those going through it.

If you’re able to, please consider donating and helping this incredible charity continue their work. Every contribution—big or small—makes a difference. 💜🩷
