14 year old boy arrested
It was a busy evening for your local Epsom and Ewell Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), whose patrols involved a foot chase, the seizure of mopeds and some cross-border work with Metropolitan Police.
Heading out around midday, SNT officers PC Hawkes and PC Berghofer were patrolling on the Ewell Bypass when they stopped the driver of a moped who was found to have no insurance. The moped seized and a ticket issued for driving with no insurance.
Not long after, A/PS McLoughlin and PC Delaney were patrolling the Longmead Estate when they spotted a group of youths known to police. At the sight of the police car, the group made off. Running after on foot, the two officers radioed to colleagues who were able to intercept and detain the youths.
A 14-year-old boy was subsequently arrested as he was found to be outstanding for four offences including shoplifting, criminal damage and attempted burglary. He has since been bailed pending further investigation. An 18-year-old boy was also issued with a Community Resolution after being found with a small quantity of cannabis.
And the evening didn't stop there, with a call over the radio from Metropolitan Police officers who had found themselves in Epsom ground after a moped rider failed to stop. The man fled from the scene, so Metropolitan teams called in their dog unit for further searching and SNT officers helped to close the road and speak with members of the public.
While the searches for the moped rider were negative, it resulted in the seizure of the moped – and a special thanks goes out to the member of the public who brought out cups of tea and biscuits for all the officers on a rainy evening, it was much appreciated!
