The FASTER Project is a joint initiative by partners in Scotland, Ireland & Northern Ireland to support the transition to low carbon transport systems.

The project partnership will install 73 rapid (50 KW capacity) charging points before May 2023.

Motorists travelling to, or through Ballybofey, County Donegal can now avail of a rapid charge at the new Weev charger on Navenny Street, installed as part of the FASTER Project.

Great to see another of our Republic of Ireland sites going live.

EV owners living in or passing through Virginia in County Cavan can now avail of the brand new charger installed by the Weev team as part of the FASTER Project. We are delighted to see these chargers are finally available to motorists and wish all users very happy motoring!

Electric vehicle users in Dundalk can now get charged up using the Weev charger at Dundalk Tennis Club installed as part of the FASTER Project. DC charging for both CCS & Chademo available up to 150kW. Contactless payment is available.

Our colleagues at Weev have just announced that four of the FASTER Project EV charging locations in the Republic of Ireland are now LIVE and ready to power up your electric journey! ⚡️

EV charging is now available at the following locations:

📍 Connaughton Road, Sligo
📍 Carrick on Shannon, Leitrim
📍 Carrickmacross, Monaghan
📍 Kennedy Place, Navan

The Weev team is working closely with ESB to ensure that the remaining chargers are added to the network is quickly as possible.

Follow the Weev social media pages for further updates as the FASTER Project social media feeds are no longer monitored/updated on a regular basis.

Electric vehicle owners can now access a rapid charge in locations across the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area. Infrastructure delivered by our partners EasyGo is now available to use at the following locations:

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Valerie Harte said, “Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is delighted to have been a partner in the Faster Project, to support the transition to electric vehicles and sustainable transport through the installation of new high-speed chargers across our district. The FASTER Project has been fortunate to have a strong group of committed people and organisations leading the delivery of the initiative. Projects of the scale and nature of ours take huge amounts of effort, perseverance, patience and the ability to adapt as needed to the prevailing market situation and regional requirements.

There are so many people who have been responsible for the successful implementation of the 75 new charging points located across Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland (Border Region) and along Scotlands western isles and coast, and we managed to bring a few of them together to produce this short review film.

Thank you to everyone who made the FASTER Project a reality and helped us achieve the key deliverables expected of the project - it is our mutual hope that the new facilities put in place and learnings developed through and shared by the project over the past three years will have a lasting impact and pave the way for future investment in regional EV infrastructure and sustainable transport systems.

The Mayor of Ards and North Down, Councillor Jennifer Gilmour, said:

“Ards and North Down Borough Council now has eight EV rapid charger units available at Council facility car parks in our two main urban centres. Having these units at key facilities in Bangor and Newtownards ensures that those visiting our Borough in an electric vehicle for leisure, tourism or business purposes can be safe in the knowledge that rapid top up charging is readily available. Not only is this a further demonstration of our commitment to a net zero carbon future but it also makes our Borough a more attractive place to live, work, visit and invest."

Representatives from the FASTER Project delivery team are visiting locations across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland (Border Region) this week to celebrate completion work on the new charging infrastructure.

The first stops on the road trip were the Aurora Leisure Centre in Bangor and at Londonderry Park in Newtownards

Highlights from the 2023 Attitudes and Behaviours Survey conducted by South West College reveal

- 55% of motorists are travelling less than 25km per day
- Only 10% of respondents are regular public transport users (weekly or more often)
- 80% of motorists say the Irish and UK governments are not doing enough to support the transition to electric vehicle use (increasing to 86% for current Battery Electric Vehicle drivers)
- 70.4% of motorists are likely to, or very likely to purchase a Battery Electric Vehicle as their next car (up from 65% in 2022). 17% of motorists are planning to change vehicle within the next year (13.5% of BEV owners)
- Only 4.35% of current BEV owners would choose not to purchase another electric vehicle (down from 6% in 2022)
- The purchase price of electric vehicles remains the biggest factor affecting motorist choice followed by the vehicle range and availability of charging infrastructure
- 89% of current BEV owners charge their vehicles at home weekly or more often
-56 % of survey respondents disagreed with the statement that mainstream news media presents a fair and balanced view point about Battery Electric Vehicles.
