All produce is grown naturally, and sold on site and at Englefield Garden Centre. The Five A Day Market Garden is situated in the beautiful village of Englefield, West Berkshire. We are a not-for-profit community supported project which aims to engage the rural and urban community by:
- selling affordable, healthy, naturally grown produce
- educating children, adults and older people within an out

door therapeutic environment, with a focus on art, nature and fruit and vegetable production
- encouraging people to get involved through volunteering
- offering a unique team building experience to corporate organisations

Volunteer opportunity to support friendly social and therapeutic gardening group for older folk

Volunteers required to support older folk, who face a range of issues, from limited mobility, to cognitive issues and feelings of social isolation, in a weekly therapeutic gardening session
The Thyme Together project is a friendly social group for seniors over 65, with a focus on activities that enhance health and wellbeing in a natural garden environment. It is an inclusive group which incorporates many aspects of therapeutic horticulture and is
comprised of attendees who face a range of issues, from limited mobility, sensory impairment, to cognitive issues, and feelings of social isolation. We are looking for more volunteers who would enjoy assisting and supporting this group and encouraging social
interaction.

The volunteers are essential to the running of this group, as this allows the senior attendees to have the support that they need. Activities range from sitting down tasks for those with limited mobility, e.g. potting on, and weeding/planting in the raised beds, often from a chair, to more active jobs, such as hoeing, for those without mobility issues. It is a friendly, gentle-paced gardening session which includes growing vegetables, flowers, fruit,
outings, chat, tea and of course cake.

There will be a maximum of 10 clients attending these sessions, which are led by our qualified horticultural therapist. We hope to have 1 volunteer supporting 2 or 3 clients.

Time commitment: 2.5hrs - We have 2 Thyme Together groups and need additional volunteers for both. The sessions run Thursday Mornings 10 -12 midday and 1-3pm and volunteers are asked to arrive 15 mins before the session starts and stay on for 15 mins to help clear up.

This is a wonderful opportunity to help older folk enjoy time spent outside in nature. Our beautiful therapeutic garden may be enjoyed by all. By being part of this group, you will really feel that you are giving something back to the community and helping to reduce any feelings of social isolation. It is led by our trained horticultural therapist, from whom you will also learn lots of hints and tips and ideas to try at home!

What a fantastic Thyme Together session today with Tessa our willow weaving tutor! Many comments from attendees on how absorbing and mindful the activity is and how great to learn a new skill that presents us with a plant support at the end! Thank you so much Tessa for donating your time and skills so generously!

Congratulations to Carebus Community Transport for their Community Champions award from West Berkshire Council. Without this volunteer service and Pangbourne volunteers many of our Thyme Together group would not be able to get to our garden.

OOPS! The plant support workshop is definitely still taking place on Saturday 7th January but is now fully booked. I mistakenly used the 'cancel event' option rather than just posting that it is now full.
Sorry for any confusion.

Here are the details for the obelisk workshop on 21st March.
