‼️Action needed ‼️

The UK government is currently consulting on possible changes to fireworks regulations, including potentially restricting the use of louder fireworks to professionals only.

Tighter regulation on fireworks would be an excellent first step to cracking down on the harms that fireworks cause to animals kept in homes, as well as wildlife and animals on farms. Animals can become traumatised, get injured, and even die from fireworks - they are far from a harmless bit of fun.

Imagine if all you could do for your whole life was swim in circles, but you could barely even do that...

‘Fancy’ goldfish, like this fantail, are bred into bodies that are considered ‘cute’ or ‘interesting’ to humans.
Sadly, these bodies often cause the fish chronic, ongoing issues.

Distorted body shapes and fins can make it difficult or even impossible for some fish to swim normally, keep themselves upright and manoeuvre around their environment. They can especially struggle in tanks with a strong filtration current.

When we alerted a staff member to this struggling fish, he simply banged the glass to scare the fish and told us that they had ‘gorged themselves at breakfast’. Since carp are naturally foragers, goldfish tend to gorge on food when it is tipped into their tank. This fantail’s compacted body means that when they eat a large amount of food, their digestive tract pushes into their swim bladder. This not only stops them from being able to swim potentially for several hours, but is likely very uncomfortable and painful. This fish will have to deal with this issue their whole life, due to the way humans have altered their body.

How frustrating must it be to not be able to go where you want to, using all your energy to move but your body holds you back?
These fish can live for decades, trapped in barren tanks, struggling to move.

Where did your beloved ‘pet’ come from?
Where are their parents?
What did they have to endure to get to you?
What did you support when you bought them?

The photos from PETA investigations show the horrors of pet breeding mills. These are animal factories, treating animals as products to ship out to stores and make a profit.

If you love animals and don’t believe they are here to be exploited, please please never buy an animal. Always adopt, never shop.

We are horrified by the news that 43 parakeets have been shot with catapults in Priory Gardens, Orpington, London, in the last three weeks.

Parakeets are not native to the UK, it’s generally understood that they were brought over by the ‘pet’ trade and subsequently escaped. They are just trying to live their lives in an environment that we put them in. We have absolutely NO right to cause them any harm.

The fact that videos of them being attacked are being posted on social media is sickening. Please follow and sign their petition urging the government to make catapult attacks on wildlife a standalone criminal offence.

She’s not happy to be here. She’s exhausted.

When animals at mobile zoos appear quiet or still while being handled, it can be easy to mistake the behaviour for calmness.

But an animal enduring a close-up encounter with humans, isn't the same as them choosing it.

Taken from place to place, exposed to unfamiliar environments and repeatedly handled by strangers, animals used in mobile zoos have little control over what happens to them.

Even when they do show us they don't want to be there, those reactions are too easily overlooked.

Animals shouldn't have to struggle, resist or fight back for us to recognise that they deserve a choice.

Being handled isn't enrichment. Being compliant isn't consent. And being quiet doesn't mean being happy.

They are not props for entertainment. They are individuals who deserve to be treated with respect.

Is a the animal in your home really your
‘companion’ or ‘family member’ if you bought them in a shop?

Selling animals directly reduces them to being an object that can be ‘owned’. You do not
‘own’ a companion. A companion is someone who chooses to be by your side.

Adopting from a responsible rescue is the only way to ‘acquire’ an animal that is a mutually beneficial decision. Not only do you get to experience caring for them by offering a home to an animal that desperately needs , but you are not directly supporting a business or individual who sees them and their family as nothing more than profit.

Always adopt. NEVER shop.

Exotics vet on reptiles being one of ‘the worst represented and advocated for’ groups of animals.

In the pet trade, snakes are kept in vivariums that don’t allow them to stretch. Lizards are denied the ability to climb, bask, and forage. Turtles suffer in poor and dangerous water quality. And this is all just the tip of the iceberg.

Reptiles belong in the wild, not a human’s home. Thank you, , for everything you do for these amazing, misunderstood animals 💚
