Ely Choral Society brings about 125 mixed-voice singers, a youth choir and cathedral concert audiences into one musical community. We are writing because an evening of Indian classical music in nearby Cambridge may interest adults, younger singers and families who already make live music part of their lives.
We are Rajeev Kumar and Shabd Pyari, husband and wife and Co-Directors of KalaSudha. We organise these concerts together without external funding. Our purpose is to help serious live Indian classical music remain accessible while giving first-time listeners a welcoming entry into this ancient tradition. Cambridge Ragas takes place at Cambridge Junction on Sunday, 20 September 2026.
Doors open at 6:00 PM, and the concert runs from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Ustad Mehboob Nadeem performs on sitar with Dr Sam Evans on tabla before the interval. Pandit Debasis Chakroborty follows on Indian slide guitar and Brij Veena with Ustad Akram Khan on tabla. Two extended performances allow the melodic ideas and rhythmic exchanges to develop fully, giving choral listeners time to hear how the artists build shape and momentum.
Could the society share a concise invitation through one suitable choir or audience communication? One action is enough. We can provide ready-written copy, and we have attached a shareable JPG and printable PDF for your chosen route. If cost would make attendance difficult for younger singers, families or students, we can also create a community booking code providing a 20% discount.
