Through the Government’s Youth Guarantee, you can access:
✨ Help with CVs, job applications and interviews
✨ Training opportunities and career advice
✨ Local Youth Hubs with personalised support
✨ Confidence-building, wellbeing & practical guidance

You don’t need to be on benefits to access many of these services, and support is available locally across the UK.

Who was Bishop Laney?

Bishop Benjamin Laney (1591–1675) was a key Church of England leader during one of the most dramatic periods in English history. He served as Bishop of Peterborough, Lincoln, and later Ely, and was a loyal supporter of King Charles I during the English Civil War, and when the monarchy was restored in 1660, Laney returned to his role and continued serving the church.

In his Will, Bishop Laney bequeathed £500 to his college Pembroke Hall and left his land, houses and buildings estates to six substantial freeholders from Ely or Soham. The Will stated that the rent and profits should be used to help children from poor parishioner families in Ely or Soham, receiving a maximum of £10 per child.

The Bishop Laney Foundation carries on the legacy today, offering substantially more than £10 per person. It continues to help school leavers with financial assistance in the years they need it the most.

What a busy time we had last week!
It was an honour to be part of both Ely College and Village College Post -16 progression evenings.
It was great to chat with students that were still figuring out what they wanted to do, and many that had great career plans already!
