It's not every day that the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Douglas Dakota overflies with several passes over the Museum's 'Thunder day'. Around 850 visitors attended today. Victor, Ni**od, Jet Provost, Dakota, Devon, Se5 and Eastchurch Kitten were all run for the visitors. A major success for all!

Look at what has arrived in the post!

Big shout out the Steve Comber and the team at The Centre of Aviation Photography for the cover and for organising the nightshoot last November.

It never gets old seeing the team's hard work on the front of a glossy magazine!

As a similar sized 4 engined jet of the same generation I felt this was worth sharing!

John Travolta's former Boeing 707 has now just arrived in Australia by shipping.
The story of a muted ferry flight from the US is an interesting one. All being well she will fly again

Went the day well!
The day was a little less than pleasant so, it was decided to finish off the spares recovery on the last main undercarriage leg from the salvage yard in Staffordshire. Everything was tried to separate the inner and outer sections but, to no avail. It was decided to cut the main casting and extract the internal 'oleo'. I hate to do things like this but, you can't keep everything. The oleo was removed and like the previous stripped one zero sign of wear on any usage at all. The serial numbers were only several numbers apart from each other so, it is concluded that the two legs were never probably used and were reserve stock at RAF Stafford MU! Next task will be a strip down of the oleo's and new seals sized etc. The corrosion of the casting of the chopped leg as seen is pretty deep but, the other is almost corrosion free so, it will be kept. The end as removed will be making a great door stop or plant pot!

'Handley Page Aircraft Ltd'

The two 4-engined all metal bombers built for the RAF by Handley Page at Radlett Aerodrome in Hertfordshire under Sir Frederick Handley Page.
Astounding to think that only a decade or so separated design and acceptance to service of both types. Both built for a different kind of warfare and quantum leaps apart in technology.
Handley Page ceased to exist in 1970 during construction of the commuter 'Jetstream' airliner which continued in production elsewhere. The Victor B2 was starting the process of conversion to air to air refueling in the tanker role and the conversion contract was subsequently passed to Hawker Siddeley Aviation (later Bae). Radlett Aerodrome closed. The Victors were then ferried to Woodford near Stockport and Radlett became an industrial complex with part of it being cut through by the M25 motorway. The only real clue to its past is a memorial plaque on the industrial estate. Google maps still shows a section of outlined (removed runway) alongside the railway line.

The Halifax was photographed outside today (Thur) as the site was being prepared for the forthcoming 'We'll Meet Again' WW2 weekend at Elvington.

Main OLEO's round 2!
After attempting to extract the oleo out of the second spare unit we found that the two sections refused to part company. Even with everything disconnected and unbolted. We have no idea how long this unit sat unloved in a surplus yard and its in far worse condition than the unit we have already dismantled.
The complete leg which was removed from a Victor in an 'unsympathetic way' will be dismantled in the near future and has now been placed in the workshop. This holds oil and gas pressure perfectly but, it will be taken apart and the oleo removed for checking and resealing. The leg itself will hopefully be refurbished and eventually become a display item. Cut parts will be removed and replaced with better items if all goes to plan
