An absolutely fantastic weekend at the Essex Scouts’ Survivor camp with our Scout Troop, staying in the Africa Sub-Camp. From archery, tomahawks and air rifles, to high ropes, abseiling and stunt bags and everything in between, including a silent disco, scalextric and sumo wrestling. A fun-packed event for Scouts in glorious weather!
We’re so very lucky to have such a wonderful group of young people and leaders to enjoy our Scouting experiences with!
(Sadly, my boots didn’t survive and the temporary repair was christened by my Scouts!🤦🏼‍♂️)

(Relatively) quick and simple setup last night for this weekend's Essex Scouts Survivor Camp. A late one, but luckily we managed to dodge the rain and get all the tents up before dark!
Shout out to the 1st Henham & Elsenham Scout Troop Leaders for helping with pitching camp and providing Yorkie bars👍.

An amazing trip to The Netherlands completed, with our Cubs and Scouts having a whale of a time at De Efteling Theme Park. Coaches, boats lodges, hiking, rollercoasters, water rides, theatre shows, red squirrels (and one rat), lots of food, sunshine, sweets and laughter! Great teamwork by our Leaders and Young Leaders to deliver a fantastic expedition for our young people, and to gain valuable experience in running residential events for our Group.

And finally, a sleepover for 20 of our Cubs, plus Young Leaders and Leaders, in preparation for Essex Scouts' Efteling Expedition 2026! For some Cubs it was their first time sleeping away from home, so it's key to hold these preparation events to ensure they enjoy their expedition experience. There were Netherlands-themed activities including traditional Dutch children's games, paper tulip making, mini clog painting, Dutch fairytales and stroopwafels, as well as passport checks and updating OSM personal details. Sleepover completed the following morning with continental-style breakfast, all planned to prepare our Cubs for our expedition.
And not forgetting, the big kit reveal and kit handout!
Next stop: De Efteling!

2027 International Contingents together for the first time today, and I’m proud to say I’ve been selected to be the Unit Leader for the Iceland 2027 Expedition!
I’m thoroughly looking forward to working with a dedicated and talented Contingent Leadership Team to give our Scouts a fantastic experience in The Land of Fire and Ice!
Today was about everyone getting to know each other with introductions and teamwork activities, and plenty of time to chat and make new friends!
