🌿 Could you see yourself getting involved in your local community?

Being part of Methlick Community Council is a great way to have a voice in what happens in our village and to help make a real difference locally.

It’s not just about meetings and paperwork! Community Council gives you the opportunity to work alongside other local people, support local groups and businesses, have a say on issues that matter to the community, and get involved in projects and events.

Over the years, this has included things like the village tidy-up, local fireworks display and the Christmas meal for older members of our community — all helping to make Methlick a welcoming, safe and vibrant place for people of all ages. ❤️

We’d particularly love to hear from young people in our community who might be interested in getting involved. It’s a brilliant opportunity to meet people, share your ideas and help shape the community you live in, while also developing valuable skills such as teamwork, communication, organisation and confidence.

You don’t need to have any previous experience — just an interest in Methlick and a willingness to get involved.

Methlick Community Council has a couple of vacancies, and we’d really love to see some new faces come along!

We’re particularly keen to get some youth representation and hear from council tenants, but everyone is welcome. 😊

You don’t need to know anything about Community Councils or have loads of experience — we’re just a group of local people who care about Methlick, listen to what’s happening in our community and try to help make good things happen.

Whether you’ve got ideas, concerns, or simply want to find out what we’re all about, come along and have a chat with us. There’s no pressure and no commitment — just a chance to meet us and see what we do.

⚠️ Wildfire update – Public information

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service continues to respond to the ongoing wildfire within the Cairngorms National Park. There are currently nine fire appliances at the scene, supported by specialist wildfire resources, as firefighters work alongside partner agencies to tackle the incident.

As emergency service operations continue, we are asking the public to take note of the following important information:

🚨 Smoke advisory – Tomintoul
Residents in Tomintoul are advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution due to smoke from the wildfire.
If you are affected by smoke, stay indoors where possible, keep windows and doors closed, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity. For further health advice, please follow NHS Highland.

🏠 Evacuation update
As a precaution, residents in the small area of properties north-west of Dorback Lodge (Lain Thatchan) are being evacuated. Residents are being directed to a dedicated respite centre at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort.

🚜 Request for plant machinery
Operators who can provide suitable plant machinery to support the ongoing multi-agency response are asked to report to the Village Hall in Nethy Bridge.

⚠️ Please continue to avoid the affected areas while firefighting operations remain ongoing. The area remains unsafe due to active firefighting operations, rapidly changing fire behaviour and helicopter activity.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as emergency services and partner agencies respond to this incident.

We're looking for tenants to join us for a discussion about tenant participation and engagement in Scotland.

Whether you're actively involved with your landlord or have never joined a tenant group before, we'd love to hear about your experiences.

Aberdeenshire Council tenants are being invited to share their views on the authority’s Tenant Participation Budget for 2026/27.

Tenant participation is supported by law to make sure tenants have a real say in how housing services are run and improved.

This means social landlords must provide opportunities for tenants to share their views, get involved in decisions, and influence how services are delivered.

To support this, a dedicated Tenant Participation budget is used to fund activities that help tenants take part.
Based on this year’s budget, funding is mainly used for communication and engagement, such as newsletters and printed information (£16,800), events and meetings including catering and travel (£5,500 combined), and training and conferences to help tenants build skills and confidence (£6,800).

There is also funding for memberships and digital tools (around £3,600), as well as support for Registered Tenant Organisations (£1,200), plus smaller costs like postage and local group support. Staff costs are not included, meaning the full budget is focused on making sure tenants can get involved, share their views, and help shape housing services in a way that works for them.

Tenant participation Budget 2026/27

Tenant participation are currently consulting on Aberdeenshire Council’s Housing Tenant Participation budget. Your input will shape how funds relating to tenant participation are spent this year and the next financial year. This information will be collected and discussed at a later workshop which includes tenants and members of the tenant participation team.
