NHS Grampian Community Conversations

Thank You and Invitation to our Next Community Conversation – 1 July 2026

Thank you to everyone who joined our first Community Conversation sessions in February. These open sessions brought together members of the public and senior health and care leaders from across Grampian.

We really value the time you gave and the insights you shared — your contributions are already helping to shape NHS Grampian’s priorities for the coming year. We’ll be sharing some updates on social media soon.

We’d now like to warmly invite you to our next Community Conversation, taking place online on 1 July at 6pm.

This is another opportunity for open and honest conversation with senior leaders. We know we won’t solve everything in one session, but we are committed to listening, learning, and building a shared understanding of what matters most to you and our communities. These conversations will take place throughout the year, and we want them to be shaped by you.

Join us on World Sand Dune Day for a walk through the dunes of Balmedie and along the beach to discover how the dunes were formed, how they provide us with protection from the sea and why they are constantly changing. We’ll also look at some of the fabulous flowers that live in the dunes and some of their stories - can they cure your heartburn, stop your feet smelling, tell you if it’s going to rain?

We're urging all road users to dispose of their litter responsibly as our annual roadside verge cutting programme gets underway in the coming days.

The council maintains around 3,500 miles of roads and more than 6,200 miles of rural verges, with teams set to begin cutting to improve visibility at junctions, bends and sight lines.

However, growing volumes of litter on verges are creating serious challenges for both safety and the environment.

Discarded items such as cans, bottles, cups, wrappers and food packaging are frequently thrown from vehicles and become trapped in roadside grass and undergrowth.

During cutting operations, this waste is shredded and spread further, making it harder, more hazardous and more costly to remove.

Philip McKay, head of our Roads and Infrastructure Services, says: “Far too often, our teams are encountering large amounts of litter across our roadside verges. Once it’s in the grass, it becomes extremely difficult to deal with and can pose risks to wildlife, the environment and those tasked with maintaining these areas.

“We provide litter bins across our towns and villages, and many food outlets do the same. There is simply no excuse for throwing rubbish from a vehicle or leaving it behind when walking. The responsibility lies with each of us, so please give your litter a lift home and dispose of it properly.”

As work gets underway, motorists are also being reminded to take extra care around verge cutting operations. Services will use tractors and operate under mobile traffic management, with signage in place to warn approaching drivers.

Mr McKay add: “Our teams and contractors are carrying out essential work to keep our roads safe. We ask drivers to slow down, be patient and pass with care. A few moments’ consideration helps keep everyone safe and allows this work to be carried out efficiently.”

📅 The consultation form will remain open until 11:59pm on Saturday 13 June 2026.

As part of the ongoing development arising from the Udny Local Place Plan, the community has identified a clear ambition to enhance local facilities and create a more connected, active, and inclusive place to live.

One of the key proposals is the development of a new Community Sports Hub serving Pitmedden, Udny and the surrounding area. The vision is to provide modern, accessible and flexible facilities for sport, recreation and wider community use throughout the year.

At this stage, the project remains in the consultation phase and no decision has been made on a preferred location. Community feedback will play a crucial role in helping shape both the facilities provided and the most suitable location to serve residents across the area.

We are inviting residents, sports clubs, community groups and local stakeholders to complete our short questionnaire and help shape the future of sport and community provision in our area.

South Road in Oldmeldrum will be reopening to two-way traffic tomorrow afternoon (Fri).

A one-way system was introduced on the A920 after an HGV collided with a residential property causing significant structural damage in October 2024.

With repairs having been made and scaffolding being removed, the local bus service which has been diverted will be returning to its former route from Saturday.

There is work being carried out on the building but Ellon Library remains very much open!

We've had quite a few recent enquiries/comments from people thinking we are closed.

We are only closed Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays.

Our usual opening hours are pinned at the top of this page as a reminder.

Despite a section of the library being barriered off, you are still more than welcome to come in, browse, borrow and return books along with utilising our computers and printing services
