Another string to our bow at The Port Men in Sheds is our Gardening Group 🌱🍅🥕

A small group of our members have been busy growing all sorts of fruit and vegetables at our Shed-quarters. Some of the produce will even be used in our kitchen to help provide meals for our members across the week.

The gardening group is a great way to enjoy some fresh air, companionship, gentle activity and plenty of laughs along the way. Whether you are an experienced gardener or simply enjoy pottering about outdoors, everyone is welcome.

If you know any men who may enjoy joining our “Garden Gang”, please send them along for a brew and a chat.

At The Port Men in Sheds, it’s not just about the projects and activities — it’s also about friendship, companionship and sharing time together around the table. 🍳☕🥪

Thanks to Jim and Malcolm, members can enjoy a full English breakfast on a Monday, bacon and sausage batches on a Wednesday, along with lunches on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Their hard-working team of assistants help keep everyone well fed across the week!

We’re pleased to say that our chefs have successfully completed their food hygiene training and the kitchen has also been inspected by the Health & Hygiene Team from Cheshire West and Chester Council. 👨‍🍳✅

For some members who live alone, preparing meals for one can sometimes feel like too much effort. Others simply enjoy the chance to sit down, have a meal with friends and enjoy the social side of The Shed. And for many, it’s a welcome alternative to making sandwiches at home every day.

The kitchen refurbishment was made possible thanks to a generous donation from 🌟The Asda Foundation🌟, helping us create a welcoming and practical space for members to enjoy.

Our thanks again to Jim, Malcolm and all of their assistants for the fantastic work they do each week supporting members of The Port Men in Sheds. 👏

Always good to see you. Thank you very much for your time and support.

🔧 Refurbished Roller Raises Funds 🔧

Members of The Port Men in Sheds were recently gifted an old garden roller that was in need of a little TLC.

After some hard work, the roller was cleaned, oiled, tidied up and even fitted with a brand new handle made by members in the workshop. Once restored, the roller was put up for sale… and sold within minutes! 👏

The money raised will help support the ongoing work of The Port Men in Sheds Charity and the activities, companionship and support it provides for members across the community.

Another fantastic example of recycling, restoring and teamwork at The Shed! 🌟

🌍 Welcoming Visitors from Reutlingen 🇩🇪

Last Saturday, members of The Port Men in Sheds were delighted to open their doors and welcome a group of VIP visitors from our twin town, Reutlingen.

The group were in Ellesmere Port as part of the long-established twinning programme, spending the weekend visiting a number of local organisations and community projects across the town.

During their visit to the Shed, our guests were keen to learn more about the support, companionship and wide range of activities we offer. As one of the longest-established projects among the 1,100+ Sheds across the UK, it was a great opportunity to share what makes our Shed so special.

Members spoke about the transformation of Overpool Community Centre into our “Shed-quarters” and showcased a small selection of the fantastic work created within our workshops, art and community groups.

A big thank you to Cllr Katie Kendrick OBE - Netherpool Ward for her continued support, and we wish our visitors a safe and enjoyable stay.

A Bench Restored – A Story of Friendship and Craftsmanship

At The Port Men in Sheds, it’s often the stories behind the projects that mean the most.

Recently, two of our members lovingly restored and revitalised a beautiful mahogany garden bench that is over 100 years old. The bench originally belonged to our oldest member, Jack S. After Jack sadly passed away last year, he left the bench to fellow Shedder Brian W as a heartfelt thank you for the many lifts to and from the Shed when Jack was no longer able to drive.

Brian had intended to take on the restoration himself, but true to the spirit of the Shed, he wasn’t on his own for long. Fellow members David B and Rob stepped in to help—and together they rose to the challenge, transforming the bench back to its former glory.

UK Men's Sheds Association

The bench will now take pride of place in Brian’s garden, where it can be enjoyed for years to come—hopefully for another hundred years.

A wonderful piece of craftsmanship, but more importantly, a lasting tribute to friendship, kindness, and community.

Superb work by all involved.👏

The Port Men in Sheds – More Than Just a Shed ☕🔧🎨

Our doors are open Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm, and you’ll find something different happening every day.

Members come along for the camaraderie, companionship, and a good laugh. Some get involved in our music or art groups, others enjoy gardening, metalwork, or creating in the workshop. And for many… it’s simply about a brew, a biscuit, and a chat 👍

Recently, Jim put his skills to great use by creating a colourful picket fence for a local charity garden 🌼

We also repair, recycle and reuse wherever we can – giving old items a new lease of life and supporting the community at the same time.

You don’t need to be “handy” or “creative” to join us.
The only real requirement? The ability to enjoy a cup of tea and a biscuit! ☕🍪

If you, or someone you know, could benefit from a friendly, welcoming place to spend time, come and see what we’re all about.
