On New Year's Eve 2025, Ali and her daughter Izzy were enjoying a simple morning walk along the pavement through Helmsley, North Yorkshire, when the unimaginable happened.
Both were struck by a tractor, leaving Ali with serious crush injuries and Izzy with head injuries. Separated by the vehicle and unable to see one another, neither knew if the other was safe.
Our crew flew Ali to hospital, while Izzy travelled by land ambulance. Despite the fear and uncertainty, Izzy knew her mum was in the best possible hands with our critical care team. π
After everything their family has been through, Izzy is now giving back to the charity that was there for them on one of the most difficult days of their lives. This weekend, she'll be taking on our Hike4Helis 1 Peak Challenge in support of YAA.
Ali and Izzy's story is a reminder that a life-changing emergency can happen to anyone, at any time, even during an ordinary walk. π
