Do you believe in the power of dance to bring people together?

We're looking for a Project Manager to help us take this work further through our new three-year Calder Movers and Creators project.

You'll help develop our year-round programme of dance classes and workshops, build relationships, and lead the search for a permanent home for our work in Elland and Calderdale, working closely with our Artistic Director.

The role
➡ Elland, Calderdale, with home working
➡ 22.5 hours per week (3 days)
➡ £19,305 per year, (pro rata from £32,175 FTE)
➡ Fixed-term contract: January 2027 - June 2029

We particularly welcome applications from people with a range of lived experiences, including disabled and neurodivergent people, people from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse communities, LGBTQ+ people, and people with experience of health inequalities.

It's nearly time to Dance to Dolly! 💃

Join us to feel good and find joy together as we dance to Dolly's famous tracks. Expect laughter, fizzing energy and space to breathe.

Spaces are still available for the Hebden Bridge workshop:

This workshop proudly celebrates International Day of Older Persons and welcomes all, specifically welcoming people aged 60 and above. We warmly welcome the LGBTQIA+ community.

✨ We have some exciting news! ✨

Curious Motion has been awarded funding from The National Lottery Community Fund’s Reaching Communities programme to support our work over the next three years!

Building on our long-standing commitment to improving health and wellbeing through dance and creativity, this funding will enable us to launch our new project, Calder Movers and Creators, supporting communities across Elland and the lower valley of Calderdale.

It will help us to grow our programme of free and low-cost activities, co-create new opportunities with local people and support those facing barriers to health and wellbeing.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be reaching out to our communities to make sure our programme is shaped with the people it is here to support. In the meantime, if you’d like to support our work, there are lots of ways you can get involved:

• Moving with us - join a class, workshop or community event
• Volunteering with us - share your time, skills and enthusiasm to help make a difference
• Spreading the word - tell others about our work and help us reach people who could benefit

Big thanks to Age Friendly Calderdale for supporting these sessions, meaning we can offer them on a donation basis. Funds raised will support Curious Motion’s programme, tackling isolation and loneliness in Calderdale, and 20% of funds will be donated to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, an international charity that provides children with books and removes barriers to reading.

Autumn at Curious Motion 🍁

We are excited to be back dancing and exploring after our summer break. It's only week two and we've already danced MANY TIMES to the legendary Dolly Parton, explored new improvisation tasks, and enjoyed quite a lot of coffee!

We've also been delighted to welcome new participants and both our Brews & Grooves and Performance Company groups remain open to join.

Brews & Grooves is an accessible dance and social session for people aged over 55. It includes 45 minutes of dancing and time for a good cuppa. Tuesday mornings in Elland.

Performance Company is our inclusive dance group for adults of all ages. We explore a wide range of dance activities and create our own dance work. Thursday evenings in Elland.

Over the past two months our Performance Company has been exploring Contact Improvisation, a practice built on shared weight, touch, and listening.

Each week the exploration has unfolded with sensitivity, care, and trust, and it's grown into a beautiful work in progress that we've been lucky enough to perform at Shaw Park and Overgate Hospice so far.

This week we went further: exploring 'under, over, around, through', 'exploding' outward and finding each other again, and simply walking together. Huge thanks to our wonderful dance artist Sharon Cameron for her support with this.

The company is continuing to develop the work, and we hope to share it at a Curious Motion event in September (watch this space!).

There's something powerful in this kind of shared movement - a feeling of togetherness, belonging, and freedom, in a world that often tries to divide us.

Walk with us on Thursday 💫

July's Wellbeing Walk is coming up this week! This month's walk kicks off our Flow Together project, bringing people together to explore movement in local green spaces. If you're looking for a non-pressured walk where you can get some fresh air with good company, then come and join us. We'll enjoy a gentle stroll along the canal and back, followed by coffee at Project C**t
