To provide more opportunity for you to come to the Apiary and observe or take part in colony inspections, the Committee have decided that this year we will have

⭕️✨✨ Open Apiary sessions every Sunday, starting on May 5th, at the changed times of 2.00pm till 4.00pm✨✨⭕️

We hope this will allow more members to attend when they have the time, and hopefully become more involved in your Association.

The experienced among you can conduct inspections, following the protocols we have agreed, and those of you with minimum of Basic Beekeeping Certificate will be able to be more hands on if you wish.

Those of you less experienced will get the chance to observe routine, and less routine, inspections and see any manipulations that might be needed.

Tea, coffee, biscuits and maybe even cake will be available, so do come along, bring a guest if you wish (we have spare beesuits) and observe, help or just chat about bee stuff.

If the weather isn't suitable for inspections, it will still be ok for the tea and chat, and maybe some frame making, hessian cutting etc.

MBA AGM , to be held at 7.00pm on Wednesday 28th February
at Elgin Town Hall.

We are still looking for someone to help/take over Secretarial duties for MBA - if you are interested, or can suggest someone who could help, please contact me direct as soon as you can.

The AGM will be followed by refreshments and then the talk by Lorraine Johnstone (Bee Advisor at Scotland’s Rural College).

Non – notifiable Diseases of Honeybees

Lorraine told us about foulbrood at the apiary on 27th August and will now talk on the non-notifiable diseases including the ever-increasing problem of Chronic Bee Paralysis Virus. Essential information for understanding and protecting your colonies’ health.

Basic Beekeeper
The Basic Beekeeper Assessment will take place in the association apiary in June or early July. If you would like to join the four people already on the list, we will be running theory classes and practice sessions in the apiary starting in late March or early April. Eight of our members have gained the basic certificate over the last two years, all with “Distinction”, so the preparation sessions really work! If you're interested, please contact me on [email protected].
