🌊 Coastal Erosion Project Update – Hopeman Area 🌊

We are pleased to share an update on the coastal erosion plan that is looking to begin this year.

HCA recently met with Will Burnish, Senior Engineer at Moray Council, who previously worked on the Lossiemouth coastal erosion project alongside the RAF. This was a very useful meeting to understand approaches that have already been successful in nearby areas.

Following that, they also met with Lossiemouth Community Council (massive thanks to Carolle Ralph and Ginna), who kindly showed them around the beach area where natural materials such as old Christmas trees have been used to help manage coastal erosion.

The next step is now to begin drafting a proposal to move the project forward, using the knowledge and ideas gathered so far.

One of the early ideas being considered is making use of the cuttings from this Sunday’s stair-clearing work. These could be used to help discourage the creation of new informal paths between Finlay’s Bay and the East Beach area, and instead encourage continued use of existing designated routes.

It is really important that we all continue to use the established paths. Creating new tracks can accelerate erosion, so signage will be put in place to help guide walkers and protect the coastline for the future.

Thank you to everyone involved so far, this is an important long-term project for the whole community.

(And apologies for the long post… there was a lot to cover! πŸ˜„)

πŸŽ‰ Congratulations to the Hopeman Heritage Group! πŸŽ‰

We’re delighted to celebrate the most recent gathering of the Hopeman Heritage Group and their very first official meeting. It’s fantastic to see such enthusiasm and commitment to preserving and sharing the rich history of our local area.

A big thank you to everyone who has already shown interest and support in getting this group off the ground. This is just the beginning, and there is so much potential ahead!

If you would like to be involved in the Hopeman Heritage Group, we would love to hear from you. New members and volunteers are always very welcome.

Likewise, if you have any photos, stories, documents, or any other information relating to Hopeman’s heritage, please do get in touch with the HCA via email or feel free to bring it along to one of our meetings. Every contribution helps build a fuller picture of our shared history.

Let’s work together to preserve and celebrate the heritage of Hopeman for future generations. πŸŒΏπŸ“œ

A big thank you to Gerry and his small team of volunteers who came along to help clear the steps from Cameron Park to the school.

Although turnout wasn’t quite what had been hoped for, the team rolled up their sleeves and still managed to get the job done πŸ’ͺπŸ‘

The stairs are now looking much tidier and safer thanks to their hard work and community spirit.

Thank you again to Gerry and his crew for giving up their time to help keep Hopeman looking its best, it really is appreciated πŸ’š

Please enjoy a few photos of the finished result below πŸ“ΈπŸŒΏ

A huge well done to Ellen Stewart, one of our community members, who was awarded a Bronze Medal at the North Scotland Garden Show 2026 for her beautiful show garden! 🌸🌱

Despite challenging weather conditions throughout the event, Ellen still achieved a fantastic Bronze Medal result β€” a brilliant reward for all the hard work, creativity and dedication that went into creating the garden. πŸ‘

A wonderful achievement and something the community can be very proud of πŸ’š

Please join us in congratulating Ellen! 🌼🌿

πŸ“’ Can You Help Us?

The Hopeman Community Association is trying to trace family members connected to a memorial bench at Hopeman East Beach.

One of the plaques reads:

"Alex Wm Anderson (1925–2002)
Lovingly Remembered By All His Family"

We would be very grateful if any relatives, friends, or anyone with information about the Anderson family could get in touch with the Association.

We would appreciate any shares to help us reach the family.

Thank you for your support. ❀️

A polite reminder to everyone using the recycling facilities ♻️
Recently, a large amount of cardboard has been left beside the recycling bins when they have been full. While we completely understand people are trying to recycle responsibly, leaving cardboard and other waste beside overflowing bins can quickly become litter.
Wind and weather can easily scatter loose cardboard and packaging across the village, into local habitats, the harbour and eventually the sea. Marine litter is known to cause harm to wildlife through entanglement, ingestion and habitat damage, affecting birds, fish and other marine species.
If the recycling bins are full, please consider using alternative recycling centres in Lossiemouth, Forres or Elgin rather than leaving items beside the containers.
A few extra minutes can make a huge difference in helping keep our community, coastline and wildlife safe and clean.
Thank you for helping protect our village and environment.
