⚠️ A Polite Request to Parents, Carers & Young People
We have received a report of some concerning behaviour in the Meadow View area last evening, involving young people throwing objects at the windows of residents’ homes.
We would kindly ask parents and carers to have a conversation with their children about what has happened and, importantly, the impact this type of behaviour can have on others.
While we all understand that young people will have fun and sometimes make mistakes, throwing things at people’s homes can be frightening and distressing. Some of the residents in the area are elderly, frail or unwell, and an unexpected bang at a window can cause considerable worry and stress at a time when they really don’t need it.
“Kids will be kids” can only go so far when someone else’s safety, property or wellbeing is being affected.
We would also like to speak directly to the young people involved, and to young people in our community generally. Please take a moment to think about how your actions can affect someone else. Something that might seem funny or harmless at the time could have a very different impact on the person on the other side of that window. Please look out for the more vulnerable members of our community and show them the same kindness and respect you would want shown to your own family. 💚
And as the colder, darker months approach, if you're bored, looking for something to do, or feel there simply aren't enough activities for young people in Hopeman, come and talk to us!
We'd genuinely like to hear your ideas. Speak to any member of Hopeman Community Association or send us a message and let us know what you'd like to see happening in the village. If there are things we can work on together to give our young people more opportunities and activities, we'd be very happy to have that conversation.
This isn't about pointing fingers or naming anyone. It's simply about looking after one another and remembering that we're all part of the same community.
A little thought, kindness and respect can make a very big difference.💕
