IFIS, RHUL Sci-Fi & Fantasy society

IFIS, RHUL Sci-Fi & Fantasy society The Institute For Impure Science (IFIS) is Royal Holloway's Science Fiction and Fantasy Society, for all your nerdy requirements.

Join us on Tuesdays where we'll show you the very best (or worst) the genre has to offer and then head to Beehive to finish off the evening with drinks and good conversation. On Thursdays we spice it up with DnD groups, game nights, quizzes, reasing groups and more! On top of all the events, we also have an extensive library of books available to borrow by our members.

Hi guys, here's a small update on what's going on in the society right now:
1. Disney+ should now be working. Once again, I'm very sorry for the delay, but hopefully everything will be fine from now on.
2. We now have a Discord server! Follow this link to join: https://discord.gg/jqTaeh8. Let me know if it works.
3. There have been some small changes to our screening schedule, due to some of the films being removed from Netflix (sad reality of streaming services). I'll post an updated schedule later in the week.
4. We'll hopefully have our first online event next week, details will appear soon

Hi everyone, here's a short guide on how to join our screening today through Netflix Party app if you won't be coming to campus today*.
1. Download the app from here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/netflix-party/oocalimimngaihdkbihfgmpkcpnmlaoa, you need Chrome to be able to install it
2. Log into Netflix (society's account should work)
3. Follow the link that'll be posted on this page about an hour before the screening starts (so about 7pm)
4. Once the link brings you to the film, click on the red NP logo in the upper right corner of your screen to synchronise the film
This is the first time we're using the app, so let us know if you're having any issues and hopefully we'll be able to solve them next week.

*As a reminder, the screening is taking place in Arts Lecture Theatre 2 at 8pm

Hi everyone, as I mentioned in the e-mail, here is the online events poll - https://strawpoll.com/o51g3qs4b. Please fill it out, as it is crucial we know what our members are really interested in doing this term. Below I included a short explanation of what each of the events would be like.

Quizzes – those would be run through an online communicator (Teams, Zoom, Discord… we’ll see). Some of them would likely have prizes to win. In previous years we usually had one large quiz in December, with questions ranging from general trivia, through guessing character names based on pictures, to identifying book titles based on synopsis.

RPG sessions – another popular format in previous years, these will require one of our members take the role of GM and run a campaign for those who’d be interested. More details will follow in the future if this option gets chosen.

Game nights – similarly to quizzes, we’d connect through an online communicator and play a variety of board/party games available online. In the past these were more chill events during which our members could relax after a hard week.

Moderated discussions/debates – a discussion online during which we choose some topic (f.e. a film we’ve watched during our on-site event, some recent pop-culture news etc.) and share our thoughts and feelings on said topic. This could be interesting to those who like to argue and debate stuff.

Unmoderated discussions – probably most similar to our socials in the past, these would be discussions where can bring up any topic you like. Great for more outgoing people! I’m thinking about organising them regularly on a Discord server maybe.

Other – if you have any other suggestions, leave them in the comments or e-mail them to us, all ideas are appreciated!

Also, remember about our Tuesday event, details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/714708245921542/

What's your opinion? Vote now: Quizzes, RPG sessions, Game nights, Moderated discussions/debates, Unmoderated discussions, Other (please comment!)
