Edinburgh Scottish Dancers Promoting the social aspect of Scottish dancing through performance and education

Formed in 2015, the Edinburgh Scottish Dancers exist to promote the social aspect of Scottish dancing through performance, education and social engagement. Although operating predominantly in Edinburgh, our dancers have performed locally, nationally and internationally. We are fortunate to count pipers, Highland dancers, musicians and callers among our number as well as traditional Scottish countr

y dancers. The social aspect of Scottish dancing is at the heart of the group's ethos and we are keen to help groups and visitors experience this. We understand that flexibility is key in ensuring the success of your event and we can tailor our offering to suit the size, scale and budget of your event. We are as happy in helping a couple perfect their first dance for a wedding ceilidh as we are performing in front of hundreds with a full band at a more formal engagement. We're also eager to promote the health and social benefits of SCD to current dancers and have provided a platform for emerging and inspiring teachers to boost exposure and help support and nurture the talent required for SCD to continue well into the future..

What a weekend! Saturday saw our first evening dance to celebrate 10 years of ESD - a huge thanks to David Oswald and his band and the raft of volunteers who helped make the night a success and to everyone who attended.

Continuing our tradition of supporting new teachers, Beth Fairbairn led our Anniversary workshop with a great choice of dances on the Sunday with music from David and Gillian.

If you want to be the first to hear about our workshops and events, just get in touch and we’ll add you to the mailing list.

We’ve been a little quiet lately, however we've been busy in the background and are excited to announce our first evening dance to celebrate (a little belatedly) our 10th Anniversary. Since our launch in 2015, we’ve had the world’s best teaching and playing at our workshops and classes, and we’re proud to have supported newer teachers along the way.

What better way to celebrate for a dance organisation than a dance? Join us on Saturday 9th May from 7pm at St Martin’s Community Resource Centre (EH11 2JG) for an evening of favourites. We’ll be dancing to the superb music of David Oswald and his band.

Tickets (£15, £10 for students) will be available shortly but as space is limited in the hall, please let us know by email how many tickets you’d like to reserve. There’s no prize, but 10 points to anyone who can tell us why we’ve used tin cans on the flyer below!

If you weren't at our workshop last Sunday, you definitely missed out on a fantastic afternoon of dancing. Linda Henderson met the Coast to Coast brief perfectly with dances connected with the people and places of San Francisco to the sights and sounds of East Lothian.

The highlight of the afternoon was dancing Drewry's Lava Tree Reel to a fantastic set of tunes by Luke Brady, starting off of course with the theme tune to Hawaii Five-0. Keep your eyes peeled for details of our next workshop.

Only a few days until our Spring workshop with Angelika and David. Unusually for us on a Saturday (29 March, 2pm, Murrayfield Parish Church Hall) but we'll still have the usual kaffee und kuchen to help sustain the afternoon of dancing.

This workshop is supported by the RSCDS International Branch Susi Mayr Fund, which allows us to bring newer teachers over from the continent for teaching experience in Scotland. We think this is important and we hope you'll support it too by coming along. All the details are in the picture.

We had a fantastic time at The Newcastle Festival of SCD last weekend, picking up silverware in the Ladies, Men's and Mixed categories. The Festival is a showcase of high quality dancing but also the fun and worldwide friendship that this art form can provide. Highlight of the day for us, is our interpretation of Grease, set to some superb music by Ewan Galloway. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/9UVeScSAD28?si=MqrG6RNo1r0lSq0f
