alists and use a wide variety of services designed to empower people to live positively with cancer. A note from one of our organisers, Emma Borrowman, about her personal inspiration, gratitude and enthusiasm to fundraise for Maggie’s:
Drawing from my own experience, here’s a little bit of why Maggie’s have been a personal inspiration in my life. Just over ten years ago, on the 23rd December 2003, my family’s life changed dramatically. My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, which within 3 months had spread to stage 4 metastatic (advanced) breast cancer. The cancer had spread to mum’s liver. Thanks to advances in medical treatments, mum is still going strong today and the initial 18 months prognosis is a distant past. It was in Maggie’s Centre Edinburgh where we found our refuge, continuing support and inspiration to keep living life to its full. Living with cancer is tough, both physically and mentally. Watching a loved one fighting for their life can be terrifying. Maggie’s Centres provide invaluable support and an oasis from outside world for those with cancer and their families. Maggie’s helped my family, not only cope with cancer, but LIVE with cancer. My mum has made positivity and living life to its greatest a full time job. She is an inspiration to me and many others. Cancer will always be a reality of our lives, but having a positive outlook on life and the right support makes all the difference. For that, I thank Maggie’s Edinburgh for inspiring and supporting our family. And this is exactly why we chose to call our fundraiser Maggie’s Inspiration Ball. We want to raise money in a celebration of life, and as a donation to help Maggie’s and the people they support keep inspiring.
