The Band of The Royal Regiment of Scotland are continuing their exploration of the iconic uniform they wear, and this time the spotlight is on the sporran.
The Regiment and its bands wear different sporrans for different occasions, depending on their dress. Which one is your favourite?

Take a closer look at our iconic uniform!
• The Name: "Sporran" is Gaelic for purse, used because kilts do not have pockets.
• The History: Early Highland Regiments used simple goat leather. Ornate metal cantles and tassels were added after the Napoleonic Wars.
• The Material: Crafted from real, neatly brushed horsehair and polished brass.
• The Cantle Center: Features the Patron Saint of Scotland, Saint Andrew and his Cross.
• The Details: Adorned with two distinct Lowland Thistles on the lower edges the tassels also feature Thistles and Celtic engravings.
