Been cooking up this one for this coming Sunday 30th August for a while now with Totally Sound Tinderbox Collective and Firhill High School to bring you a stacked line up of the best young bands in Edinburgh!

We’re calling it “Fringe Futures” and its Neighbourgood Gardens and features the mighty The Citrines magnolia Lotas and many more!

It’s totally FREE and between 12-6pm at the iconic Ross Bandstand, West Princes St. Gardens! Mon down and being yer pals!

On Friday 28th August we’re at The Fringe Community Stage next to St Giles Cathedral between 5-6pm showcasing rose_music .music and - so come and enjoy three great solo artists for free!

We’re teaming up with National Galleries of Scotland for a brand new creative project for young people aged 12–18 👀

Inspired by American artist and photographer Catherine Opie’s “To Be Seen” exhibition, we’re going to be exploring photography, identity, and creativity!

We’re looking for young people who are into art, photography, making stuff, being creative or just trying something different.

You don’t need to be an expert photographer. You don’t even need to know exactly what you want to make yet!

We’ll be experimenting with:

📸 Portrait photography
👀 What we choose to show / hide about ourselves
🧢 Props, clothing & fashion
🪞 Shadows & reflections
✍️ Creative writing
💭 Identity, belonging & representation
👯 A big group portrait
🔥 And loads of space to take things in your own direction

Here at GY, we’re not ones to toot our own trumpet (some of us play it anyway) BUT again, our stats from last term make for some great reading!

Some of the stuff young people and parents had to say about us had us like 😭 but also 🥰

Our team of tutors and staff do such great work and make Mixtape the amazing place it is for young people interested in, starting to, and already playing music! Praise be to them!

We can’t wait for you to see what we’re cooking up next term! We return on 9th September!

We had a great time Wide Days fringe showcase last night with a group of young people!

We saw Bikini Body Fright Years and Helicon! We also posed like DARA DUBH ‘s poster because you couldn’t get into Sneakys to see them! (mad congrats).

Surf School three starts tonight and we have some more fringe fun planned this week!

25 young people hit the recording studio last week with Mark Morrow Audio last week to start recording their work and working on songs that will make up Mixtape Volune 7!

Its so amazing seeing the hard work these guys put in all term pay off when we visit the studio, some of the work they produce is truly mesmerising and we’re so proud of them all!

These visits are made possible by our funders BBC Children in Need and Creative Scotland so a big big cheers to them!

We’ve been working with oakhound on songwriting and honing their live sound for a little while now - and debut single “Shoeshiner” has been doing some mad numbers online for a DIY band!

That said we thought it was about time they played a bloomin ROCK show on Saturday 10th October Sneaky Pete’s and tickets are £5 from our bandcamp!

Support comes from Odyssey .official and nina watt also plays Sneakys for the first time!

Come one, come all! Show is 14+ and under 16’s must be with someone over 16!

ITS FINALLY HERE!

Granton Youth is proud to present it’s sixth collection of original songs by our “Mixtape” music club! - An Edinburgh based music, centred youth club for 11-20 year olds which is completely free to attend.

The standard continues to get higher in terms of young people’s original work, and we have had over 25 of our young people release independently with our help this term - as well as make great inroads within the UK Music Scene. Some have played major festivals and sold out prestigious venues around the UK, and multiple young people have been featured on BBC Introducing/Radio 1.

If you love their work as much as we do and want to sling us a donation, feel free to do so! You can also simply enter zero cause we just want you to listen!

Thanks as always to Shelley Cummings, Jordan Nye, Summer Frail, Evan Crawford, Ross Campbell, and Mary Burnside at Granton Youth for their invaluable help and support with the project.
