📣 LCCC meets this Monday 17th and there’s plenty to talk about...

📅 Monday 17 August from 7pm
📍 Nelson Hall, McDonald Road Library

As always, the meeting is open to everyone. Some of the things we'll be discussing (link to agenda at the end):

🏘️ Halmyre Street temporary accommodation

We’ll have an update on the Council’s plans to convert the former student accommodation at 18 Halmyre Street into temporary residential accommodation.

This was raised by residents at our June meeting and has prompted plenty of local discussion since.

🏗️ Planning, short-term lets and aparthotels

We’ll look at recent short-term let applications and an update on the planning position around aparthotels.

We’ll also look at LCCC’s response to City Plan 2040 – a major opportunity to influence Edinburgh’s planning policies for the years ahead.

🚔 Policing

The latest Leith Community Policing Team report covers June to August, including antisocial behaviour, illegal motorbikes and retail crime.

Police say seven operations targeting retail crime involved 71 officers and resulted in 42 shoplifting charges and 10 warrant arrests.

🚧 St Mark’s Path bridge

The bridge over the Water of Leith has now been closed on safety grounds for almost a month.

Our Transport & Clean Streets report raises some important unanswered questions, including what caused the problem and when a decision will be made about strengthening or replacing the bridge.

We’ll also discuss bus diversions caused by the forthcoming Waterloo Place closure, continuing post-tram repairs and proposals for the former railway line at Powderhall.

🌳 Parks & green spaces

Updates from Friends of Pilrig Park and Friends of Montgomery Street Park.

📜 Licensing

Latest local applications and progress on developing LCCC’s own licensing policy.

🏛️ Getting answers from the Council

We’ve previously raised concerns about how difficult it can sometimes be for Community Councils to get responses from the Council.

There’s now a new five-working-day response protocol, plans to recruit a dedicated Community Council liaison officer, and work underway to improve how enquiries are tracked.

🎉 Stead’s Place Street Party

We’ll also hear about plans for the Stead’s Place Street Party on Sunday 6 September – details in the image.

🗣️ Open Forum

If there’s something happening in Leith Central that you think we should know about, the Open Forum gives local residents and businesses a chance to raise it.
