People Know How

People Know How A Scottish charity running services and campaigns in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Scotland that place people at the centre (SC043871).

People Know How is a Scottish charity that aims to improve wellbeing across communities by supporting people to overcome barriers and thrive. We deliver services locally in Edinburgh and the Lothians, and engage in research and campaigning to effect change on a national scale. We also provide a national digital support helpline: 0800 0 590 690. Our work supports all parts of the community includin

g children, young people, families and adults. Our services recognise the varied and intersectional experiences and needs of each individual. This is why we take a hybrid approach to our service delivery, combining a holistic model with tailor-made support while also making use of partnerships to signpost to other appropriate interventions in addition to our own service offerings. These partnerships play a key role in placing the voices of those we support at the centre of our work to effect social change. By collaborating across the four sectors (third, public, business and academic) we are not only able to work together to deliver local support, but also engage in research, and campaign for policy change nationally. Since our foundation in 2013 we have formed a People Know How community made up of staff, trustees, volunteers, interns, placement students, the people we support and stakeholders across the sectors. We’re committed to inclusion and value the diverse experiences of every member of this community.

🌟 Volunteering: Looking Back and Leaving a Legacy 🌟

As People Know How draws to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect on one of our greatest strengths: our volunteers. Over the years, the team empowered hundreds of people to make a real difference, whether supporting children through school transitions, helping communities get digitally connected, or as part of the All Aboard canal boat. During the pandemic, the volunteer team was over a hundred at any one time, offering telephone support, refurbishing digital devices, and delivering them straight to people's doors.

👏 To every volunteer who gave their time, energy, and passion: thank you. You’ve helped shape a legacy of learning, inclusion, and compassion that will live on in the communities we served.

📣 One volunteer told us:
“Volunteering gave me a sense of purpose. I developed skills, met brilliant people, and realised I could make a real difference. It changed the direction of my life.”

Volunteering isn’t just support, it’s leadership, growth, and transformation. And we couldn’t have done it without you.

👉 If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, now is the time. Your skills and time can change lives. and often, your own.

💡 And if you’re part of a charity or community group, investing in your volunteering offer is one of the most powerful ways to build capacity, grow impact, and strengthen your community.

Let’s keep the legacy of volunteering alive. 🌱 Big thanks to partners like Volunteer Edinburgh and Volunteer Scotland for championing volunteering.
