The Citadel

The Citadel Here for children, young people and families in Leith since 1980 The Citadel has provided community-based youth work in Leith since 1980.

We are an experienced voluntary organisation with strong links to local people and partners. Our flexible, community-based approach provides young people, families and individuals with learning, leisure friendship and access to adults who care and who can do something to help whenever it is needed. Our open access youth clubs, projects and individual support are all designed to meet the needs of the young people in our area- we keep in touch with parents, schools and other services to understand their needs too. If you would like to find out more about us please visit our website or give us a call!

What’s on your doorstep? 🏡💛

For many people in Leith, the Citadel is just around the corner. On International Day of Older People, we’re celebrating the people who make it a place to feel welcome, build friendships and connect across generations.

These photos capture some of what makes our community special: warmth, humour and the chance to enjoy spending time together.

Older people bring ideas, skills, stories and energy to life at Citadel. Their involvement helps shape a place where different generations can learn from one another and everyone has something to contribute.

This year’s theme, “What’s on your doorstep?”, is also an invitation to listen. What do you value about your local community—and what would you like to see more of?

Thank you to everyone who helps make Citadel a place where generations connect.

Always hard to share photos of Junior Group because we're so busy having fun, we forget to take pictures! Yesterday we made stress balls with rice and balloons, went on a scavenger hunt looking for monsters, and then had a runaround in the games hall playing with the spare balloons. Does anyone recognise those puppets?!

Excited to see you all there 🏆✨️

Last week, we had a fascinating session exploring the Citadel’s history as a train station—sharing stories, examining old photographs and imagining what the station might once have looked like.

The session was part of New Spin, our intergenerational project delivered in partnership with Pilmeny Development Project (PDP). A brilliant afternoon of local history, creativity and connection across generations! 💬🎨
