When you’re caring for someone, hot weather can add a few more things to think about.

Is there enough water in the fridge?
Is the room getting too warm?
Do plans need to change?
Is the person you care for coping with the heat?

And somewhere in amongst all of that, there’s you.

So while you’re looking out for someone else, try to look after yourself too. Keep a drink nearby, find some shade, take things a little slower if you can and check in with someone if you need a bit of support.

Sometimes the simplest things can make a difference on a hot day.

We hope all of our carers are managing to keep cool and enjoy a little of the sunshine too.

Caring for someone can shape every part of your day.
Your time, your routines and the opportunities you have to focus on yourself.

At Care for Carers, we create opportunities for unpaid carers to take time away from their caring role, try something different and spend time with people who understand.

Through our Stepping Out residential breaks, carers can experience supported short breaks across Scotland. From city trips and remote island stays to theatre visits, foraging walks and astronomy activities, each break creates space for new experiences and connection.

Our Still Caring programme offers day and evening activities including mindfulness, arts, woodwork, cooking, nature activities and theatre trips.

We listen to carers and shape our support around what they tell us they need. When we cannot provide the right support ourselves, we help carers find the service that can.

If you are an unpaid carer, you deserve opportunities that support your wellbeing too.

Looking after a family member or friend can be one of the most rewarding things you do, but it's not always easy, and it's easy to lose yourself in it.

That's where Care for Carers comes in.
We run local events, organise short breaks, and create chances to meet other people who genuinely get what caring involves, because they're living it too.

It doesn't matter what age you are, or what condition or disability the person you care for has.
If you're an unpaid carer, our door is open.

Want to find out more, or think we might be able to help?
Get in touch, we'd love to hear from you.

The support we provide to unpaid carers across Edinburgh is only possible through the organisations that invest in our work.

Care for Carers is proud to be funded by the Edinburgh Health & Social Care Partnership, NHS Lothian, Carers Trust, the Bank of Scotland Foundation, Short Breaks, The National Lottery Community Fund, People's Postcode Lottery plus many more trust funds across the UK.

Their support helps us deliver residential breaks, wellbeing activities, creative opportunities and practical support that enables carers to take time for themselves, connect with others and improve their wellbeing.

Every activity, conversation and opportunity is made possible through partnerships that recognise the vital contribution unpaid carers make every day.

Thank you to all our funders for helping us continue supporting carers across Edinburgh.
