Wednesday night saw a fantastic turnout at The Merchants Hall for Sea2Sea with Iain Sinclair🌊

A huge thank you to Iain for being our February guest speaker.

Company Member Iain shared the phenomenal story behind his record-breaking swim of the 60-mile-long Caledonian Canal, which has and continues to raise over £87,500 for British Heart Foundation, Mikeysline and Crohn's & Colitis UK to date.

Thank you also to Court Assistant Elizabeth Flockhart for helping to make this very special presentation happen.

What a pleasure it was to host ESMS Connect and BBC Scotland Journalist Kheredine Idessane at The Merchants Hall last night. Thank you to the ESMS community and our Members for a fantastic evening, highlighted by Kheredine’s keynote address reflecting on his time at Stewart's Melville College and how valuable school bursary support served as a launchpad for his career.

A message from Fresh Start as we support their Cookers for Christmas Appeal 👇📖

Many people don't realise that when someone moves into a new tenancy after experiencing homelessness, what they're really getting is an empty shell - no furniture, no household items, and often, no white goods.

Facing unexpected, large expenses like a new cooker, washing machine or fridge freezer can be a major obstacle to sustaining a tenancy. As a result, many people who are moving on from homelessness are then at risk of further food insecurity, poor hygiene and illness, and are unable to feel settled in their new home.

Our Cookers for Christmas Appeal supports those moving on from homelessness by providing a range of essential white goods, taking this weight off of their shoulders and helping them make a home for themselves. Thanks to the support of organisations like The Royal Company of Merchants of The City of Edinburgh, we can make a difference this festive season, ensuring everyone has a happy Christmas this year.

The most wonderful time of the year is here at The Royal Company of Merchants 🎄🏦. Senior Company Officer, Graham, has been hard at work putting up the beautiful new Christmas tree in The Merchants Hall. What do we think? 🤩

Today we were honoured to join the Remembrance Commemoration. 🎖️

The morning began with coffee in the Stewart’s Melville College Dining Hall, followed by a wreath laying at 11am, to which both Master of The Royal Company of Merchants, Grant Macrae OBE, and Treasurer Katie Ridland contributed.

Despite the rain, spirits were high for all in attendance as we gave thanks to the service of our veterans and current armed forces.

THE GREAT CALEDONIAN SWIM🌊

Our member Iain Sinclair has completed a remarkable world-first swim across Scotland’s Caledonian Canal, from Fort William to Inverness.

Over ten days in September, Iain covered the full 60-mile route — including all 29 locks — raising awareness and funds for Crohn's & Colitis UK, the British Heart Foundation and Mikeysline.

A former Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby flanker, Iain undertook the challenge with Scottish Canals in support of causes that have shaped his own journey, having undergone major surgery for indeterminate colitis in 2013 and raising further awareness of heart disease and mental health in memory of two friends.

📸 Photos by Rob Eyton-Jones from the swim are below.
💙 You can still support Iain’s fundraising and help make a difference by donating today: https://sea2sea.co.uk/

Congratulations, Iain. What an extraordinary achievement.
