EYO is a Scottish charity founded in 1963 dedicated to nurturing musical excellence & widening access to orchestral opportunities for young people in Edinburgh, the Lothians and across Scotland.

Meet Gregor! 🥁

As one of our talented percussionists, Gregor will be performing with us this August at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Pictured here playing the marimba, an instrument that will also take centre stage in our concert, Gregor is looking forward to sharing the stage with fellow musicians from across Scotland.

With just 2 months to go until our EYO Symphony Orchestra concerts at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, over the coming weeks, we’ll be introducing some of the fantastic young musicians who will be bringing our summer programme to life.

First up is Eleanor, one of our oboists. For Eleanor, being a part of EYO is all about making music together:

🎶After an inspiring Ensembles Course filled with incredible music-making, we’re reminded why organisations like EYO matter so much.

For over 60 years, we’ve brought young musicians together to connect, collaborate and grow through orchestral music. 💫

As one player shared:“EYO allows young musicians to connect with others their age and to encourage each other in music, particularly when they don’t have many other musicians around them elsewhere.”

We’re proud to welcome players from all across Scotland, and we’re committed to making sure finances are never a barrier. Through bursaries and subsidised places, we open the door to life-changing opportunities.

A finale full of energy 🎶🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We closed our EYO Ensembles Concert with a vibrant performance of A Scottish Celebration, a fantastic arrangement of Scottish tunes generously loaned to us by Sistema Scotland.

A huge thank you again to all our young musicians and their families, Tutors, Ambassadors and Mentors, Pastoral Support Staff, Senior Course team, donors and supporters, our Board of Directors and the venue staff at George Watson’s College who made this year’s Ensemble Course so special.

Everyone’s energy, commitment and of course the young musicians’s fantastic music-making made it a four days to remember! 💛

We’re already counting down to 2027… 👀

A calm Sunday evening moment 🌙✨

Here’s the penultimate video from our EYO Ensembles Course Concert - our Vivace String Ensemble performing the beautiful Andante from Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 led by Claire Docherty.🎻

Such a moving performance, full of warmth and expression…the perfect way to wind down the weekend.
